QUALIFICATIONS : This position requires knowledge of special needs children including those with emotional disturbances and autism; special education program IEPs; behavior intervention strategies; implementation of behavior support plans; knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and procedures related to programs and services for special education students.
Must possess the skill to maintain accurate records, reports, logs and profiles; effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms; maintain confidentiality; read, analyze, interpret periodicals, journals, procedures, regulations, and instructions; present information and respond to questions from students, teachers, families, and co-workers; work mathematical concepts; solve practical problems; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Must possess the ability to identify individual behavioral, emotional, and / or communication patterns which interfere with students learning; identify environmental conditions which impact student behavior; make recommendations for adaptations or change; provide advice, assistance, and techniques to classroom teacher, aides, and families while providing direct service to student, enabling on-going support of student; identify and recommend appropriate instructional materials that would benefit the student's attainment of educational / behavioral / emotional / social goals; respect and encourage school district and family participation in each student's particular program decisions and implementation plan; serves as a member of Individualized Education Program team to share assessment information and develop behavioral goals and objectives for students with serious behavioral difficulties; provide in-service training to parents and district staff in the areas of behavior management, crisis intervention, and other behavioral domains; perform other related duties as required.
MUST POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION : Three years experience in education, special education or work with special needs children including children with emotional disturbances or autism. Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Mental Health or Psychology. A Master's degree is desirable.
A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION : Under direction provide staff development and training for instructional and support personnel in the area of behavior intervention for students with exceptional needs; advise and provide support to school district personnel responsible for local staff development activities; provide support to personnel with relationship to behavior intervention methodology in meeting the identified educational goals of individuals with exceptional needs.
STARTING SALARY : $5,864.10 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS : 10 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS : 8 (daily working hours 7 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m.)
