Position: Emergency Department Technician
Compensation
The estimated pay for this position is $23.2929 to $28.6472. The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Emergency Department Technician incumbents are expected to have a general understanding of patient care, scope of practice, anticipate needs of staff of the Emergency Department, as well as performing other related duties for which they are competent to perform.
The Emergency Department Technician will be competent in the ability to perform independently while taking directions from many sources, remaining calm in situations, be well organized, dependable with a positive attitude, and maintain a professional appearance. Incumbents will also follow clearly established procedures to assist licensed, professional nursing and medical staff in an in-patient setting; including performing general clerical functions and caring for patient’s personal needs, safety, and comfort.
Essential Functions:
- Receives direction and assignments from physicians and nurses and provides technical support to optimize patient care;
- Safeguards and preserves the confidentiality of patient’s protected health information in accordance with State and Federal (HIPAA) regulatory requirements, hospital and departmental policies;
- Responsible for reporting on the condition of patient/client to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members;
- Coordinate and assist with care as directed;
- Cleans and stocks carts, rooms, and changes linens, as required, keeping them organized and maintaining an aesthetic pleasing appearance;
- Assists with transport of patients to other departments;
- Assists with resuscitation / CPR;
Employment Standards:
- High school graduate or equivalent;
- California State Certification as an EMT desired;
- Possess and maintain a current, clean and clear American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card required;
- One (1) year of current experience in a comparable job classification required;
- Phlebotomy certification must be maintained; Appointees not possessing this certification upon hire must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for their Phlebotomy certification within six (6) months of appointment or employment will be terminated;
- Must achieve Basic Dysrhythmia certification within six months of assignment;
- Must achieve competency in splint application within six (6) months of assignment;
- Must achieve competency in point-of-care testing within six (6) months of assignment;
- Must achieve competency to perform a 12-lead EKG within six (6) months of assignment;
- Basic Microsoft Office skills preferred;
- Ability to:
- Read, write and effectively communicate in English;
- Organize and complete work in a timely manner;
- To understand medical/surgical terminology;
- To work effectively within role independently and with other team members;
- To work utilizing aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of:
- Infection Control
- HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of patient information.
