Kern Regional Center is one of 21 private, non-profit regional centers contracted by the State of California through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to coordinate community-based services and support for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Kern Regional Center services over 10,000 individuals in Kern, Inyo and Mono Counties. Our counties cover approximately 22,000 square miles with a population of over 945,000 people.
The Forensic Specialist position is essentially an experienced, non-case carrying coordinator who will provide support to staff within our agency by: Providing enhanced training to staff on forensic matters affecting regional center clients of all ages involved in the court system: mental health, civil, criminal, and or probate. Offering professional consultation to service coordinators on forensic matters affecting the clients. The Forensic Specialist provides support to case management staff and staff from other departments to assure individuals with developmental disabilities received fair and humane treatment within the judicial and law enforcement system. Serving as the court liaison in civil, criminal, juvenile, probate court hearings. Participating in Legal Interdisciplinary Team consultations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology or closely related field from an accredited university with 2 years’ experience of regional center case management.
- Or any combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Bilingual language fluency (Spanish/English) highly desirable.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and State automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record substantiated by a DMV printout.
- Full use of automobile or ability to provide for independent transportation.
- Must be able to drive to various sites as assigned daily and travel long distances.
- Must be able to stay overnight to hold meetings and attend trainings when necessary.

Hourly rate - $24.16-$34.00
