The Machine Operator operates CNC machines with Plasma/Oxy/Laser to cut plate parts, beams, tubes, and other steel shapes from structural steel profiles in preparation for fabrication. Detect malfunctions in machine operations such as unacceptable parts or damaged cutting tools and load machines with raw material. Provide basic maintenance and communicate with co-workers regarding production schedules; follow job priorities for workflow; and maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment in accordance with KSF policies and standards. Must be capable of creating CNC programs for machines operated.
Essential Job Specific Duties:
- Read imported programs and set up CNC machine for production runs. Comply with safety guidelines during all machine operations.
- Efficiently organize parts/assemblies by job number, sequence, and priorities (sorting, stacking, palleting, etc.) in preparation of moving to the next process.
- Ensure parts are complete (cuts are finished, slag is cleaned) and ready for the next process.
- Perform first article inspection of machined products, including documentation of results.
- Complete and maintain production console for parts and complete through Strumis for feedback data.
- Follow SOPs pertaining to each respective machine and perform daily, weekly, and monthly checklist tasks for preventative maintenance.
- Responsible for marking parts and nestings as being completed in the Fabrication Management software (Strumis) and for maintaining the nesting queues and folders.
- Organize and maintain raw materials.
- Maintain machines for maximum reliability.
Other Job Specific Duties:
- Learn programming software, as applicable.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly operational checkpoints.
- Perform daily housekeeping to maintain clean machines in accordance with KSF standards.
- Cross-team collaboration and efforts to increase productivity.
- Must understand and follow the KSF Code of Conduct and all guidelines in the KSF employee handbook.
- Must maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with KSF procedures, rules, and regulations.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Degree or certification from a technical school or at least one year of experience in machine programming. Additional years of experience may be acceptable without certification.
- Must have experience operating a small forklift for loading/unloading materials at machines.
Ability to:
- Read and interpret drawings, follow routing schemes, use simple math to perform basic calculations, use basic handheld measuring tools, and convert metric dimensions to imperial (ft/inch).
- Troubleshoot and document machine problems.
- Detect and report defective materials.
- Read blueprints and interpret geometrical tolerancing per AWS D1.1.
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Work independently and in a team.
- Attention to detail and strong problem solving and multi-tasking skills.
Knowledge of:
- Forklift, crane, and other material handling machinery
- Lean Six Sigma
- Company policies and procedures.
- Basic computer programs, such as Windows 10
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters in performing the essential functions of this job.
- Work is primarily performed outside.
- Noise level is moderately loud to loud.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

Salary : $22 - $25
