Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Low Voltage Technician in New Orleans, LA. You will be responsible for day-to-day tasks related to installing and maintaining lighting, audio, special effects, and other electrical/electronic systems. This is a very hands on role, usually working in a warehouse environment but sometimes in external weather - rain or shine the show must go on. Some travel is required, rarely more than a week at a time. This is a minimum 40 hour per week role. During some periods there is substantial overtime available. Ability to work weekends and holidays (did I mention we do Mardi Gras?) is sometimes required.
Basic Qualifications
- Electronic installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting skills
- Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking setup and troubleshooting
- Experience working with common hand tools, ability to operate a fork lift a plus
- Experience with electronic tools, I.E. laptop, soldering iron, needle nose plier, diagonal cutters, etc.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively with other Kern members as well as customers
- Strong attention to detail is critical
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols in all of our various environments
- Ability to enjoy the best live music and food anywhere in the country
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 50lbs
- Reach, push, pull, lift and carry
- Exposure to loud sounds/music and flashing lights
- Walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl
- Climb up and down ladders
- Work within confined spaces
Bonus Qualifications
- Journeyman electrician (we work mostly with low voltage but also do medium (120/240) voltage work on occasion)
- Working with and setting up generators (look at all the lights on those floats, not to mention the sound systems)
- Knowledge of WS28xx protocols
- Knowledge of RGB "pixel" installation, repair, and usage
- Previous experience with xLights, Falcon, and other lighting control software, even if only to set up amazing Christmas displays to blink your neighbors
- Working knowledge of PC Office software
