The Meat Department Assistant Manager at Kessler's Grocery Store is responsible for supporting in the overall operation of the Meat Department, ensuring the department is run efficiently and meeting all customer expectations. This role includes overseeing product quality, inventory control, employee supervision, and customer service. The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Meat Department Manager to uphold store standards, promote a positive work environment, and achieve sales targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily operations of the Meat Department, including staffing, customer service, inventory management, and product display.
- Supervise and lead a team of meat team members, ensuring they provide excellent service and maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Ensure proper product quality, handling, storage, and labeling in accordance with company policies and food safety regulations.
- Assist with managing inventory levels, including ordering, receiving, and stocking of meat products.
- Maintain the department’s appearance, ensuring products are well stocked, attractively displayed, and properly priced.
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with product inquiries, special orders, and recommendations.
- Assist with the training and development of new staff and provide ongoing coaching to improve team performance.
- Handle customer complaints or concerns in a professional and effective manner, escalating issues to the Meat Department Manager when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including OSHA regulations and food safety laws.
- Support department sales goals and assist in promotional activities to drive customer interest and increase department profitability.
- Assist with scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage during peak periods and maintain labor efficiency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Meat Department Manager.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or specialized training in food service or retail management is a plus.
- Previous experience in a grocery store, meat department, or food service environment, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred but not necessary.
- Strong knowledge of meat products, cuts, and preparation techniques is preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of inventory management and ordering systems.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) and work in a refrigerated environment.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- 40 hours a week
- Rotating weekends and holidays
- Open availability preferred
- Shifts can vary between 6:00am - 2:00pm or 5:00am- 1:00 pm
