General Summary:

The staff pharmacist is responsible for preparing, dispensing, and overseeing medications to ensure patient safety and efficacy. They provide pharmaceutical care, including counseling patients on the proper use of medications, monitoring drug interactions, and collaborating with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes by leveraging their extensive education and Kessler’s Core Values.


Key Responsibilities 

  

1.  Medication Dispensing:

        - Accurately prepare and dispense prescriptions, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

        - Verify prescriptions and review patient medication histories for potential drug interactions and contraindications.

2. Patient Care:

        - Counsel patients on the proper use, storage, and potential side effects of medications.

        - Provide advice on over-the-counter medications and other health-related products.

        - Monitor patient responses to medications and make recommendations for adjustments as necessary.

3.  Clinical Services:

        - Conduct medication therapy management (MTM) and comprehensive medication reviews (CMR).

        - Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.

4.  Regulatory Compliance:

        - Ensure adherence to all state and federal regulations governing pharmacy practice.

        - Maintain accurate records of all transactions and inventory, including controlled substances.

        - Stay updated on new drug approvals, recalls, and changes in legislation affecting pharmacy practice.

5.  Operational Duties:

        - Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering, stocking, and monitoring expiration dates.

        - Supervise and train pharmacy technicians and support staff when needed.

        - Implement and adhere to pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure efficient workflow.

6.  Quality Improvement:

        - Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and pharmacy services.

7.  Professional Development:

        - Stay current with continuing education requirements and advancements in pharmaceutical science.

        - Attend professional meetings and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution.

Licensure: Valid pharmacist license in the state of practice.

Experience: Previous experience in Retail, Hospital, or Clinical Pharmacy setting is preferred.

Skills:

   - Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

   - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

   - Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals.

   - Proficiency with pharmacy software and technology.


Working Conditions:

Retail setting

Requires rotating evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Will involve standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Exposure to chemicals and medications requires adherence to safety protocols.
