As an Educator/Staff Development, you will carry out our mission to improve the experience of aging together by supporting all nursing operations to develop, oversee, and nurse educate.

What will I do as an Educator/Staff Development?

  • Responsible for planning, organizing and implementing education and staff development of nursing staff facility wide. Participates in the identification of training needs. Ensures new clinical initiates are implemented according to regulation and clinical element pathways. Contributes to the development and implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Responsible for development/revision of new employee orientation and a primary presenter for clinical/nursing -related topics to meet requirements of mandatory training. Develops/implements on-going orientation for skills training and oversees achievement of clinical competence during the orientation process for clinical staff
  • Establishes and implements training and auditing calendar and tracking system for nursing education to improve nursing skills, documentation, and clinical compliance.
  • Participates in SNF Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) Committee. Gathers and presents data related to training programs and effectiveness/outcome of interventions.
  • Participates in ongoing efforts to improve the overall quality of nursing care, including efforts to evaluate and address the causes of various care-related problems and opportunities for improvement. participates in the facility-wide Quality Improvement Committee,
  • May participate in other facility committees contribute to the overall betterment of the organization.
  • Acts as a key leader within nursing and across the organization for interdisciplinary communications and teamwork.
  • Participates in the development of goals and strategic planning for the nursing department
  • Supports the Director of Nursing and assists in oversight of nursing care provided by unit managers, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, geriatric nurse assistants, and others for whom this position is administratively or professionally responsible.
  • Tracks and oversees employee health records in accordance with regulations.
  • Requires availability to provide education to all shifts as indicated.
  • Acts as back-up for the infection preventionist to ensure tracking and reporting requirements, as well as infection prevention training.
  • May conduct interviews for nursing staff.
  • May be asked to support operations, in emergency situations.

What is required in this position?

  • KNOWLEDGE OF: nursing practice and principles; medical principles and concepts; applicable laws and regulations governing sub-acute care and long-term care; administrative principles and practices; patient rights and the nursing role in helping protect and enhance those rights; principles and processes related to ethical issues in the chronically and acutely ill; strategies to improve the processes and outcomes of managing various levels of illnesses including chronic conditions, emergencies, condition changes and terminal events; principles and concepts of functional maintenance programs; reimbursement issues and strategies; principles and requirements for documentation and medical record management. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • SKILL IN: communicating with care providers; assimilating clinical information gained from care providers; making timely nursing decisions regarding nursing care needs of patients; effective listening and critical observations and utilizing the information for effective problem solving; interpersonal, verbal and written communication; dealing tactfully with patients, family, staff, sponsors, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public; critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills; leadership skills in principles of team building, motivating others, conflict management and resolution; delegating nursing and administrative functions; working harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel; maintaining patient confidentiality and must be able to balance shifting priorities between education and operational duties as indicated.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Nursing is required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Registered Nurse, licensed and in good standing with the State of Maryland Board of Nursing. Certified Infection Preventionist a plus.
  • Current AHA HCP BLS certification required.
  • This position requires 3 years of clinical education experience. 5 years of prior nursing experience in a sub-acute or long-term care setting including experience regulatory agencies is preferred.
