Virtualization Infrastructure Engineer
duties and responsibilities
• System Architecture: Accountable for the architecture, maintenance, tuning, health checks, capacity planning, and overall performance of the virtual desktop systems.
• Implementation: Responsible for the implementation of new systems, upgrades, migrations, and modifications, including thorough planning, testing, coordinating, and scheduling for clients.
• Incident Response and Problem Management: Provide incident response and problem management, including identifying the root cause of system problems and addressing configuration issues that result in operational performance degradation or system outages.
• Performance Monitoring: Expected to alert senior management to any system performance issues that could jeopardize the company or impair service levels to clients or customers.
• Mentorship: Mentor and assist in the development of other team members.
• Critical Issue Resolution: Step in and find solutions for critical issues when necessary.
• Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in matters pertaining to Virtualization of desktops and applications, regarding the respective technologies hosted or supported, capable of architecting and designing the respective technologies' architecture.
• Develop and maintain documentation for infrastructure processes and configurations.
• Provide technical support and training to end-users and other IT staff.
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support for critical incidents/outages.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Citrix and AVD Infrastructure: Proficient in Citrix and AVD infrastructure, with experience in deployments in both on-premises and cloud environments.
• VDI Support Tools: Experience with VDI support tools such as NERDIO, ControlUp, and Citrix.
• Cloud Environments: Skilled in transitioning on-premises virtual infrastructure to cloud environments.
• Government/Federal Cloud Tenants: Experience with deployments and management of VDI resources within Government/Federal controlled cloud tenants.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Citrix Certified Associate) are a plus.
