Provide essential transportation services to individuals who rely on specialized transit options, including elderly passengers and those with disabilities as directed by Transit Operations Supervisor. Responsibilities include safely operating vehicles and ensuring comfort, adhering to the daily manifest, and safety of passengers throughout their journey. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, securing mobility aids, and maintaining vehicle cleanliness and safety standards. Position is subject to FTA pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES INCLUDE:
LICENSES:
Must have a valid Driver's License for operation of a public vehicle. Driving record must be acceptable to the Borough's insurance carrier and submitted at the time of application.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Comply with all federal, state, and borough laws and regulations.
- Safely operate buses or paratransit vans along assigned routes and schedules according to driver manifests.
- Collect fares and prepare daily accounting reports detailing fares received, passenger counts and types, and other required data.
- Provide courteous assistance to passengers, responding to inquiries about routes, schedules, and fares.
- Assist in routine vehicle maintenance tasks such as fueling and general upkeep; coordinate services and repairs as needed.
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of vehicles and bus shelters.
- Perform daily safety and mechanical inspections as outlines in the "Transit Driver Manual."
- Ensure passenger safety and report any operational problems to Transit Management.
- Assist with fueling, cleaning, maintenance and other tasks as directed.
- Provide instruction to other employees of this or a similar job classification in all aspects of procedure and technique relating to the duties required by this job description unless such instruction requires a specialize certification which the employee doing the training does not have.
- Assist transit administrative staff by handling customer calls and other related tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transit Management.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES INCLUDE:
- Must be able to hear.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing, reaching, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, climbing on stools, and ladders, and routinely lift and carry items and boxes up to forty (40) pounds.
- Use of two-way radio and long periods of sitting. Physically capable of operating and/or utilize all standard safety equipment including safety harnesses, restraints, and any other equipment required by the American Disabilities Act of 1990. Driving, fueling, cleaning and maintaining a public transit bus.
