Responsibilities & Requirements
The Rapid Response Registered Nurse (RR-RN) utilizes the nursing process in providing nursing care to patients in all settings in collaboration with other health care providers. The RR-RN is accountable for his/her own professional development and practice within the scope of care defined by law. And other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (NLN or CCNE)• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred (must be completed within 5 years of hire) If hired after June of 2010 at KMCS, all other KHN facilities after Jan 2011.• A nurse who is returning to the acute care setting after five or more years may be required to provide evidence of successful completion of a refresher course
Minimum Work Experience• 3-5 Years nursing in critical care• BLS, ACLS certification• PALS, TNCC (w/in 6 months of hire)• Nursing certification (w/in one year of hire) CCRN preferredCompetent in 12 Lead EKG Interpretation

Essential Functions-coordinates the needs of an assigned group of patients, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care through outcome identification and evidence-based practice using their advanced clinical expertise.-Intervene early in a patient’s course to avert complications, failure to rescue, and unexpected death.-Responds to all rapid responses and code blue/pink calls 24 hours 7 days a week.-Assessing patients that have clinically identifiable signs of deterioration.-Assessment and reassessment of identified sepsis patients to ensure proper care path interventions are in place.-Timely intervention on patients exhibiting stroke, acute coronary syndrome, or threatened airway, transfers to higher levels of care.-Provide 1:1 critical care nursing on med-surg units when no ICU beds available, peripheral IV placement, round on patients identified by staff or physicians as a potential rapid response or patients recently transferred out of the ICU.-Serves as a primary clinical reference to the ICU/Med-Surg NPDS to identify clinical learning for the direct patient care givers, analysis of events and data to further process improvements, lead post rapid response or code huddles.
