- 2-3 years of experience in post-award grant accounting, preferably in a non-profit environment
- Knowledge of the federal funding rules, regulations, and standards for non-profit accounting
- Experience with contractual agreements, ensuring compliance with terms and requirements
Job Specific Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience with budget management, general accounting practices, external communication, and customer relationship management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe
- Experience with Banner or similar ERP system
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

Position Summary: The Grant Accountant position provides primary accounting function for all grant monitoring administration, compliance, grant accounting and financial reports of awarded grants through their final closing. This position is responsible for post- award grant related accounting duties; maintenance of grants contract files keeping up-to-date invoicing to contractors/grantor agencies; serves as principal contact for grant and contract accounting functions; prepares grants-related financial reports and journal entries; manages related general ledger accounts. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, Uniform Guidance, and the ability to accurately produce financial documentation for all grants.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for post award compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Perform post-award grant accounting functions, including setting up accounts, budget and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, monitoring time and effort reporting and distribution, reconciliations, coordination of contractual amendments, and re-budgeting
- Perform grant closeouts as required by sponsors, including final reconciliations, financial status reports, final invoices, purchase order liquidations, zeroing out budgets and final reporting
- Evaluate expenses reflected on the financial reports and other financial documents to ensure compliance with funding source regulations and terms
- Assist with journal entries, preparation of revenue and expense statements and other financial reports for internal use and/or outside/grants funding agencies
- Reviews and suggests corrections to general ledger transactions to ensure accuracy
- Prepare SEFA report and other grant documents requested by external auditors
- Maintain and update policies and procedures for post-award management of grants
- Ensure efficient and compliant data management systems for reporting and auditing purposes
- Stay current on federal, state, local statutes, policies, and procedures related to grants
- Collaborates with pre-award staff to ensure proposed budgets and funding strategies are accurately reflected and carried through post-award, supporting successful grant implementation and compliance.
