 An Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing care and education for children in a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment. The Assistant Teacher plays a key role in observing and supporting children's development, assisting with the implementation of curriculum activities, and fostering positive relationships with children and families.

Responsibilities include assisting in setting up the learning environment, engaging children in developmentally appropriate activities, supporting guidance strategies, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all children. The Assistant Teacher collaborates closely with the Lead Teacher, the center director, and parents to promote the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development of the children.

 

The Assistant Teacher must demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow professionally, respect individual differences, and support the goals and vision of the child care center.

 

  

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

  • Provide instruction, to students who are academically high needs.
  • Provide personal care, including attending to hygiene issues, to students with disabilities.
  • Instruction is small and large group settings.
  • Supervise students in all aspects of the day.
  • Provide special services support, including behavior management and behavior contracts, basic skills instruction, demonstrate/teach/and model appropriate social skills and interaction.
  • Must have experience or disposition to work with potentially aggressive students.
  • ECE short certificate is required within 5 years of hire
  • Other duties to be assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with pre-school students preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education disabilities preferred.
  • Must have the ability to keep accurate daily records and communicate clearly with teachers
  • Must be consistent, positive, and fair in dealing with students.
  • Must be flexible with daily schedule.
  • Ability to work as a member of the building team.

A person working in this position will exert 35 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly while carrying, pushing, and/or pulling to move objects.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee may also be required to work at elevated heights and climb ladders. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.

 

 

 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:

 

The salary range for the position is:  Min $18.28 – Max $ 24.58.    Salary placement will be at step 1 on the scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract. Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance.  A maximum of three (3) days of annual leave are provided for all employees based on the employee’s scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out.

 

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability.  Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.

 

Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
