Position Summary
The Operations Accounting Specialist supports financial operations within a manufacturing environment, focusing on general and cost accounting, inventory management, and transactional accuracy in ERP systems. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, facilitates financial reporting, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Accounting Operations
- Support the month, quarter, and year-end close processes by preparing journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Oversee daily accounting activities related to inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and intercompany transactions.
- Assist in maintaining CAPEX accounting, including depreciation schedules and fixed asset registers.
- Record and monitor plant operating and overhead expenses, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
Inventory and Cost Management
- Manage cost accounting processes, including reporting on costs of goods manufactured and sold.
- Conduct regular cycle counts to address inventory discrepancies and maintain accuracy.
- Perform periodic reconciliation of standard costs to actual costs, updating records as necessary.
- Support inventory-related processes, including month-end closing activities and third-party warehouse reconciliations.
ERP System Management
- Ensure transactional accuracy in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) for activities such as bills of materials, work orders, assembly builds, purchase orders, and sales orders.
- Collaborate with systems and analytics teams to ensure real-time and accurate data recording.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, offering insights to support operational decisions.
- Generate and review financial reports, ensuring data integrity and actionable insights.
- Monitor budgets for inventory, operating expenses, and excess/obsolete items.
Compliance and Internal Controls
- Assist in internal and external audits by providing documentation and ensuring adherence to internal controls.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and company policies for all financial activities.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Analytical mindset with experience in inventory and financial reconciliation.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
