Description

Keuka College is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual for a 10-month, renewable non-tenure track position as an Instructor of Criminal Justice. This role involves teaching both traditional in-person classes on campus as well as hybrid and fully online courses. Applicants from all Criminal Justice backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The position provides an excellent opportunity to teach in a forward-thinking Criminal Justice program while working in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in shaping and innovating the curriculum to reflect current trends in social justice, policy, and interdependent social structures. A key focus will be enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the curriculum and the classroom environment. The new faculty member will work closely with supportive and experienced colleagues and administrators to foster an inclusive, student-centered atmosphere.

Essential Skills :

  • Strong understanding of Criminal Justice systems and current trends
  • Experience teaching Criminal Justice
  • Candidates should have strong leadership and interpersonal skills, initiative, and the ability to work in a student-centered environment
  • Successful candidate will have experience using a variety of teaching strategies and tools
  • Successful candidate will have experience with curriculum design
  • Successful candidates will possess knowledge and ability to incorporate contemporary issues of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the classroom and curriculum.
  • Successful candidate will demonstrate willingness and ability to leverage the intentional collocation of the Criminal Justice program within a thriving division of Social Work (e.g. generate opportunities for inter-professional learning experiences, action research, grants, Field Period, and special projects).

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Provide quality instruction in the criminal justice curriculum
  • Participate in the development, implementation and assessment of the criminal justice curriculum.
  • Participate in developing new courses (traditional and online) and assist the program in current or necessary course formats as directed.
  • Incorporate best practices in distance delivery.
  • Participate in evaluation and development of program curriculum and work with the division of HHS director / program director to ensure instructional and program quality.
  • Participate in curricular and program assessment
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching, professional development, and advising
  • Contribute to the college and community through participation in college functions, community activities, and committee service coordinating and teaching criminal justice coursework
  • Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork and cultivate regional partnerships and collaborative outreach
  • Maintain a classroom environment that affirms a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrates an understanding of historical and cultural relevance to social challenges.
  • Serve as an advisor to students / cohorts in criminology / criminal justice.
  • Work with the division chair of health and human services and other college leadership in the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements
  • Always maintain a professional and courteous attitude towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka college, its programs, policies and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  • Attend provided / necessary trainings and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka college mission, vision, and values, and adhering to institutional policies.

  • Physical Requirements :

  • Occasional lifting of boxes, supplies, etc., generally less than 30lbs.
  • Sit, walk, talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Requirements

  • Master's degree in criminal justice, operations / management / supervisory / executive level development working experience within the field of study is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to provide exemplary customer service to all internal and external stakeholders and use necessary net-working skills the applicant has established / developed
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people, which may include regional professionals.
  • Always understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality.
  • Ability to be sensitive to and respond to the needs / concerns of students, faculty, college staff and the public.
