At Kevin Cradock Builders, our success as craftspeople depends on well-organized, well-managed project teams. We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager who can help expand our teams’ capacity for accurate, timely work while nurturing and supporting a safe, happy, diverse and inclusive work environment.
The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with multiple teams to achieve shared goals, along with meaningful experience as a carpenter. This person will have a high degree of technical proficiency with the software and hardware used in high-end residential construction, excellent personnel management skills, and easy familiarity with construction finances.
OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE:
- Maintain awareness of current status and upcoming timeline at all ongoing KCB projects to ensure efficient and correct operations
- Supervise implementation and usage of Quality Control tools for KCB teams
- Support Operations team in maintaining on-time, on-budget performance at projects
- Monitor staffing requirements, work with HR department to open new job positions where needed, and manage the interview process for Operations team hires
- Work closely with Construction Controller to manage project finances from incoming job costs through customer requisition, and support project teams’ ongoing updates on their customers’ budgets
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE:
- Directly supervise all Project Managers and Lead Project Coordinator, including one-on-one meetings, regular performance reviews, career development plans and conflict resolution if needed
- Lead weekly whole-team production meetings, during which you’ll help guide resource deployment and any needed project site support
- Work with Safety Officer to maintain OSHA compliance at job sites and shop, and make sure all teams are participating in training and record keeping
- Develop and use metrics to aid in assessing and improving KCB’s operational effectiveness
- Research and explore solutions for systems in development
- Create and maintain a culture of open communication in the Operations team, to discuss production issues, QC challenges, new processes, and questions about how to work more effectively
- Help maintain an excellent customer experience through regular check-ins with project teams about their customers’ communications, regular job site visits, and frequent participation in project meetings
- With HR team, manage the scheduling and completion of all performance reviews for the Operations and site production teams
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two or more years of measurable success in operations management, or in a comparable role
- Strong skills and at least 5 years’ experience in construction project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and project sequencing
- Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining holistic awareness and control of a multilayered production environment
- Deep experience with construction management software and a strong ability to work across platforms
- Current, unlimited MA Construction Supervisor’s license
- OSHA 30 certification
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with Manager-Tools guidance for teams and managers, viz. The Effective Manager, Mark Horstman, and related materials
- Experience with Procore
- Familarity and fluency with task management systems, individual and team-based
- Hands-on experience as a professional carpenter or woodworker
