JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Programs is a leadership role responsible for the strategic planning and execution of the Keweenaw Community Foundation’s (KCF) programs. This position oversees grantmaking, scholarship management, youth leadership initiatives, and community partnerships while ensuring the operational success of KCF’s programs. The Director of Programs plays a key role in building relationships with local nonprofits, community groups, and stakeholders to advance KCF’s mission. Additionally, they will contribute to the foundation’s long-term impact in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. The Director of Programs reports directly to the Executive Director.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
As the Director of Programs, you will:
Strategic Leadership and Program Oversight
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance the foundation’s impact.
- Oversee the operational success of all KCF programs, ensuring alignment with community needs and foundation priorities.
Grantmaking and Scholarship Management
- Lead and manage the foundation’s grant and scholarship programs, including application review, award distribution, and impact assessment.
- Oversee the grants and scholarship committees, providing guidance and support to ensure effective decision-making.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with nonprofits, community organizations, and local leaders to strengthen KCF’s role in the region.
- Represent KCF at community events, meetings, and initiatives to promote collaboration and engagement.
- Develop and implement strategies to expand community participation in KCF programs and initiatives.
Program Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
- Assess and monitor the effectiveness of KCF’s programs and initiatives, using data, feedback, and best practices to inform decisions and implement improvements that ensure programs remain responsive to the evolving needs of the community.
Youth Leadership and Philanthropy
- Advise the KCF Youth Advisory Council (YAC), empowering local youth through philanthropy and leadership development.
Board and Staff Leadership
- Provide leadership and administrative support to KCF’s grants and scholarship committees, ensuring clear communication and efficient operations.
Operational and Administrative Oversight
- Manage program budgets and ensure financial sustainability in coordination with the Director of Operations.
- Lead special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the Executive Director.
Experience and Skills Required
- Experience in community foundations, philanthropy, nonprofit management, or grantmaking.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple programs and initiatives.
- Ability to think strategically while also handling day-to-day program operations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of Houghton and Keweenaw Counties and their unique community needs.
- Familiarity with donor management software, and social media platforms to enhance outreach efforts.
SCHEDULE
- Hours: 30-40 hours per week
- Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid position with flexible work arrangements, including a mix of remote and in-office hours
- Core Hours: Work is typically conducted during KCF's operational office hours (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.), with occasional evening or weekend events as required
- Location: The position is based in Hancock, Michigan, with in-office work required to support collaboration and community engagement
