Job purpose
The Programs Assistant provides support to ensure the successful planning, implementation, and evaluation of KEY Project’s community programs, including ʻOhana distributions and other cultural, educational, and outreach initiatives. This position plays a key role in strengthening community connections and engagement through Native Hawaiian cultural practices and other programmatic areas.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community programs.
- Support the coordination of events, workshops, and outreach activities for programs.
- Help develop program materials and resources.
- Engage with community members to assess needs and gather feedback.
- Provide information and referrals to community resources.
- Assist with monthly ʻOhana Foodbank Distributions, Choice Pantry, and the Emergency Food Pantry Program.
- Help organize and distribute basic needs items, such as food and toiletries.
- Assist with data entry, report writing, and other administrative tasks.
- Help maintain organized records and files.
- Perform other administrative tasks as assigned to support program operations.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in any field
- 2 years of community-based programming experience
- Proficiency with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva) and social media platforms
- Ability to prioritize tasks and follow clear instructions
- Ability to deal effectively and calmly with challenging situations
- Positive attitude and willingness to continuously learn new skills and knowledge
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Experience or interest in Hawaiian culture, language, and practices preferred.
- Have general cultural knowledge of Waihe’e and surrounding ahupuaʻa.
Working conditions
This position will generally be performed Monday through Friday during organizational business hours with occasional evening and weekend shifts as needed to support programming and community events. This position requires the ability to perform sedentary work sitting at a desk, the ability to lift 25 pounds, and walking and moving around the office and all facilities, including second floor/upstairs.
