Position Title: Tax Accountant
Location: Bakersfield, CA
Salary: $90,000 - $120,000
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Tax Manager to join our CPA firm. The Tax Manager will oversee and manage a variety of tax-related services for clients, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. This role requires advanced knowledge of tax laws and regulations, as well as the ability to manage client relationships, supervise staff, and provide strategic tax planning advice to clients. The Tax Manager will be an essential member of the tax department, providing leadership and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Preparation & Compliance:
- Prepare, review, and file federal, state, and local tax returns for individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and other entity types.
- Ensure all returns comply with applicable tax laws and regulations, making recommendations for tax-saving strategies where appropriate.
- Research and stay updated on tax regulations and emerging tax law changes, advising clients and internal teams accordingly.
- Client Relationship Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing expert tax guidance and responding to inquiries.
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, ensuring their satisfaction and retention.
- Provide customized tax planning, strategies, and advice to clients to minimize tax liabilities and achieve financial goals.
- Staff Management & Development:
- Supervise and mentor junior tax staff, providing guidance on tax issues and review of their work.
- Assist in the professional development of staff through training, performance reviews, and coaching.
- Ensure that all tax deliverables are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Tax Planning & Strategy:
- Conduct comprehensive tax planning to minimize clients’ tax liabilities through proactive strategies and business structuring.
- Analyze financial information to develop solutions that align with clients' business and financial goals.
- Review and analyze tax impacts for complex transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and international tax matters.
- Review & Reporting:
- Review tax returns prepared by staff and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify potential tax issues, and recommend strategies to resolve them efficiently.
- Prepare and present reports for senior management and clients regarding tax strategies and planning.
- Business Development:
- Assist in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, including cross-selling other firm services.
- Network with clients and industry professionals to bring in new business and maintain the firm’s reputation in the community.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s in Taxation or a CPA preferred).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in tax preparation, tax planning, and consulting, ideally with a public accounting background.
- Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations, including federal, state, and local tax compliance.
- Experience with tax software, such as [list relevant software used by the firm].
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to think strategically.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven leadership ability to mentor and develop staff.
Additional Skills (Preferred but not required):
- Advanced technical skills in specific tax areas such as international tax, state and local tax, or mergers and acquisitions.
- Experience with planning for high-net-worth individuals and small business clients.
