JOB DESCRIPTION
K-6th GRADE TEACHER
Definition:
Under general supervision of the Site Principle, provide a healthy and safe learning environment; provide instruction in academic, social, behavioral, and other educational skill areas; plan, develop, organize, and conduct a comprehensive educational program; assist pupils, parents, and others in aiding pupils in making appropriate adjustment to an educational program requiring an increased level of independence; to use independent judgment and discretion in accordance with established policies and procedures; and to perform other related duties as required.
Essential Duties:
Personnel in this job classification may perform any combination of the essential duties shown below. •Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, art and students, utilizing course of study adopted by the Keyes Union Elementary School District, and other appropriate learning activities.
•Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
•Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged.
•Develops and implements lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with California State Standards and Keyes Instructional Guidelines.
•Assesses students regularly in accordance with Keyes guidelines, examines student assessment data, and refines classroom activities to differentiate instruction for each student.
•Collaborates with Keyes team members to improve own and others’ instructional practices; shares best practices.
•Actively participates in professional development activities, including: training sessions and working with lead teacher, principal, instructional coaches.
•Provides students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; finds ways to involve parents/guardians in their students’ education.
•Tracks critical student information and maintains accurate student records, including attendance, in accordance with Keyes procedures.
•Identifies unique student needs and collaborates with other team members and outside service providers to, diagnoses and address learning challenges.
•Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Keyes School District mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
•Participates in in-service education activities provided by the district and continues his/her professional growth.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Comprehensive organization, activities, goals and objectives of an elementary school site.
Principles, practices, procedures, rules, codes, regulations, laws, trends, techniques, philosophies and strategies of District and assigned position.
State and local curriculum requirements.
Principles and techniques of providing successful instruction and conflict management skills.
Child growth and development, and behavior characteristics of the elementary school pupil.
Socio-economic and cultural background differences of the general school population.
State testing requirements.
Principles and practices of supervision and training; risk management.
Principles and techniques of behavior management; interpersonal skills utilizing tact, patience, and courtesy.
Computer technology and software skills.
Ability to:
Plan, organize and direct the instruction of pupils in an elementary classroom.
Read, interpret and apply legal mandates, policies, rules, regulations and operational procedures pertaining to classroom operation and management.
Effectively and efficiently perform functions, duties and activities of this position.

Experience:
Two years of successful classroom experience at the elementary level; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university, and the possession of a valid California credential with CLAD authorizing this service or the equivalency is required.
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and proof of adequate insurance on your vehicle.
Conditions of Employment:
Insurability by the district’s insurance liability carrier. Employment is contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, and proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result
