Position Summary
Contacts members with delinquent loans over the phone using a variety of resources to include but not limited to phones, mail, fax, and skip tracing avenues. Negotiates payment plans and makes arrangements with members to bring past due accounts current and negotiates with members for the resolution of delinquent loans. Documents actions taken, responds to correspondence, and formulates recommendations regarding the restructuring and settlement of loans exercising independent judgment and discretion. Counsels and educates members about their financial responsibilities. Maintains positive customer service relationship with members. As dictated by economic trends the position may experience modified work hours, evenings hours and weekend hours to accommodate varying levels of delinquent activity. |
Duties and Functions Essential to the Successful Performance of the Job

- Contact members for repayment arrangements and coordinate receipt of payments using mail, phone, fax, and skip tracing tools, comply with FDCPA & FCPA.
- Exercise discretion and judgment, counsel and educate members concerning their financial responsibilities, obligations, and options to resolve delinquency.
- Analyze financial information and recommend credit decisions for loan workouts and restructuring loans in compliance with credit union approved policies and procedures. Monitor activity of delinquent consumer and collateral loans.
- Record information about financial status of member and status of collection efforts.
- Initiate repossession orders and assign accounts for recovery with credit union approved repossession agents.
- Monitor, review and propose recommendations for: charge-off accounts and legal accounts.
- Train other collectors and collections support staff, and act as a resource for team members in the collections department.
- Interact with inter-departmental resources and intra-departmental resources to resolve delinquency
- Comply with all department and credit union policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education: |
High School Diploma or Equivalent A.A or higher preferred |
Experience: |
· Two to five years of collections experience · Experience in small claims processing, bankruptcy proceedings and repossession procedures (preferred) · Fluent in Spanish, Haitian Creole or Czech (preferred) |
Specific Skills: |
· Excellent communication skills; the ability to be assertive while diplomatic and friendly while speaking with our credit union members on the phone. · Strong member service skills. · Ability to make decisions and work independently under minimal supervision. · Attention to detail, organized and methodical. · Intermediate mathematical skills performing calculations involving decimals, percentages, etc. · Problem-solving skills. · Must be flexible and have the ability to shift priorities. · Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends. |
