Reporting to the VP Finance, the Sr Director of Billing Operations is responsible for overseeing the entire financial lifecycle of client engagements. The candidate must be very flexible and highly committed to quality, customer service, teamwork, and supporting firm-wide goals in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a leader who manages the full cycle of collections from initiating client contact to negotiating payment plans, to creating visibility for the PLs on the time and expense accuring on the project, to sending out weekly communications to the client on the cost building on their project to generating invoices and collecting revenue on a timely basis. Key areas of responsibility will be to ensure an efficient monthly billing workflow through rigor in budgeting and forecasting, timesheet management, expense management, implementing a weekly WIP communication to external clients, invoicing and billing, and revenue processing. In this role you will assist in the resolution of issues on an as-needed basis by demonstrating a strong understanding of client guidelines and complex contractual billing arrangements. In this role you will work closely with our internal product team to optimize existing workflows and design new ones as needed. A detail-oriented mindset and the capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced environment are crucial for managing the complex financial aspects of a growing consultancy while maintaining client satisfaction through accurate and efficient billing practices.

Key Responsibilities
- Define, develop, and execute a comprehensive finance transformation strategy, optimizing end-to-end financial operations—from billing and collections, to real-time revenue tracking and communication to clients to help them manage their internal budgets, and forecasting.
- Establish efficient timesheet tracking processes to ensure accurate project cost allocation and reduce reliance on estimates.
- Develop and implement dashboards and reporting tools that enhance visibility into revenue, unbilled work, project pacing, and overall financial health.
- Design and implement weekly work-in-progress (WIP) reporting to external clients, enabling structured budgeting, clearer client communication, and improved expense management.
- Partner with Project Leads to identify financial pain points and design solutions that enhance transparency, accountability, and financial literacy.
- Lead the design and mapping of financial workflows, ensuring seamless integration across finance, revenue operations, and collections.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and deliver training on billing best practices and standardized financial processes.
- Optimize collections strategies, reducing time from invoice to cash while fostering stronger client collaboration on budget management.
- 15 years of experience in legal, accounting, or consulting time collection and billing
- Experience working with Salesforce, NetSuite, and Microsoft Office
- Previous experience working with internal product teams to build and implement workflows
- Experience with monitoring monthly aging AR reports and updating key finance metrics
- Experience training new hires on billing systems and procedures
- Strong background in financial operations, billing, collections, and revenue management.
- Experience working in growth-stage businesses and scaling financial processes to support major revenue expansion.
- Experience in building and developing high-performing teams is essential, including structuring roles effectively, identifying key skills, and providing the necessary support to drive success.
- Must have a degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize reporting metrics and share key insights with relevant stakeholders
- Ability to independently exercise good judgment and resolve issues with tact and discretion
- Successful track record of creating, maintaining, and auditing budgets for a large-scale operation, including revenue projection and anticipated billing
