Title: After School Program - Assistant Teacher
Status: Regular, Part Time (20 hours per week)
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reporting Relationship: Community Kids Program Manager
Program/Department: Community Kids
Salary Range: $17.00/hour
Position Description:
An After School Program- Assistant Teacher works with program teachers to plan and implement after school and summer programming for children and youth. This position will be located at our West 7th Street Community Center and the anticipated work schedule will be from 2:30pm – 6:30pm, Monday through Friday during the school year. This is a year round position as Summer hours will be dependent on scheduling.
Essential Functions:
Implement Youth Activities (95% of the job)
- Direct Service – Provides instruction, supervision and activities for school age children in an after school program and summer day camp.
- Activity Planning - Plans, implements, and evaluates safe, supportive, educational and enrichment curriculum and activities for children and youth.
- Environment - Works with the classroom teacher to design and maintain a safe, healthy and attractive environment that meets accreditation standards.
- Transportation – Provides van transportation for program participants to and from the center and on field trips.
- Family Support – Collaborates with the Director and teachers to provide appropriate programs for families and to respond to community and family needs.
- Record keeping – Assists with record keeping duties connected with the program including snack counts, van mileage, and attendance records.
- Professional Development – Participates in required training to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Performance Improvement – Participates in agency meetings quarterly, department meetings weekly and annual performance reviews to increase knowledge and collaborate with agency staff.
- Team building – Performs work duties in a manner that builds staff cohesiveness and expertise.
- Marketing – Represents the agency in a positive and professional manner in the community.
Other (5% of the job) Performs other duties or projects as assigned.
Qualification Requirements:
- Completion of 2 years of post-secondary education including courses in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related fields.
- Candidate must have a valid MN driver’s license, current insurance, and an acceptable driving record. Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of child/youth development and group care of children and youth.
- Cross cultural practice and communication experience.
Qualification Preferences:
- Fluency in Amharic, Tigrinya, Somali, or Spanish is preferred.
- Experience in after school or youth programs preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Physical working conditions require that the person be able to participate in youth program activities. May require lifting and moving program supplies. During program, frequent standing and walking around classroom, gym, or playground is required.
Mental requirements include ability to assist students with homework; and verbal communication ability to professionally interact with Keystone staff, youth and families, community residents, and staff from other organizations.
