Salary Range: $21 - $23/hour
Position Description:
An After School Teacher plans and implements curriculum and services for youth and coordinates with parents and school day teachers to promote school success for each student.
This is a year-round position and follows the Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) calendar during the school year and teaches during the summer session as well. This position will be based out of our West 7th Street Community Center, located at:
265 Oneida Street
Saint Paul, MN 55102
The anticipated hours for this position are:
10:30am – 6:30pm (School Year)
10:00am - 6:00pm (Summer Session)
Essential Functions:
95% - Implement Youth Activities
- Direct Service with Youth – Teaches students in after school and summer programs including planning and implementing instructional curriculum, homework assistance, enrichment and recreational activities. Conducts student assessments and evaluates performance.
- Family Engagement – Keeps families informed of progress and conducts parent teacher conferences throughout the school year. Collaborates with supervisor and colleagues to connect families to services and support while assisting with the coordination of special events.
- Supervision – Supervises and works as a team with the assistant teacher and volunteers.
- Records Management – Maintaining program database including, enrollments and turnover of students and notifying families on the waitlist of availability, keeping daily attendance and meal counts, recording student assessment scores, creating and updating permission slips and flyers.
- Program Support – Assists Director and other staff in updating and distributing registration information and program schedule. Purchases and picks up food and other supplies needed for daily programming, special events, and activities.
- Health and Safety – Maintains list of students with health concerns and allergies and monitors safe arrivals of youth daily.
- Transportation – Assists in providing transportation for program participants to and from the center and on field trips via agency vans. Helps determine van routes.
- Collaboration – Fosters and maintains effective working relationships with community agencies and school partners.
- Professional Development – Participates in regular supervision, professional development training and agency and department meetings to enhance professional knowledge and skills and extend the knowledge and skills of others.
5% - Other - Performs other duties or projects as assigned
Qualification Requirements
- A valid MN Driver’s License as transporting program participants to and from the center is required
- Previous experience working with youth in a classroom setting
- Excellent classroom management skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in cross cultural practices and communication
- Ability to work in a team setting
Qualification Preferences
- Fluency in a second language such as: Amharic, Tigrinya, Somali, or Spanish
- A bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
- Current Minnesota Teaching Licensure
- Two years of teaching experience
Physical/Mental Requirements
Physical working conditions require that the person be able to participate in youth program activities. May require lifting and moving program supplies. During program, frequent standing and walking around classroom, gym, or playground is required.
Mental requirements include ability to assist students with homework; and verbal communication ability to professionally interact with Keystone staff, youth, and families, community residents and staff from other organizations.
