Position Summary

The Phlebotomist/Drug Screening Technician Position is responsible for identifying the best methods for retrieving specimens, preparing specimens and performing the correct screening procedures for laboratory testing.

Essential Responsibilities

• Verify test requisitions by reading test orders;
• Verify patient by reading patient identification;
• Direct observe all urine collections;
• Maintain professional boundaries with clients;
• Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks;
• Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures;
• Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed;
• Maintain quality results by following department procedures, testing schedule, and recording results in the quality-control log while identifying and reporting needed changes;
• Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations;
• Resolve unusual test orders by contacting the physician or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders;
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations;
• Enhance laboratory department by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments;
• Maintain the highest levels of customer care while demonstrating a friendly and cooperative attitude;
• Demonstrate flexibility in satisfying customer demands in a high volume, fast paced environment;
• Consistently adhere to business procedure guidelines;
• Must have reliable transportation; and,
• Desire to be part of a fast-paced, rapidly growing company.

Position Qualifications

• One (1) year experience in blood sticks/draws required;
• Urine collection experience is a plus;
• High school diploma;
• Ability to handle large, fluctuating volumes of work;
• Strong PC, keyboarding and typing skills; and,
• Strong customer focus.
