Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic director that has skill and experience in working with seniors to engage, entertain, and provide life enriching activities for the residents of our Senior Living Community.
This position is responsible for the Life Enrichment and Activities Programs for the independent, assisted living, and dementia care settings within the community. The activities program must be engaging, appropriate and creative and should complement and enhance the lifestyle of the residents and community. The primary purpose of this position is to organize, develop and lead a varied activity program with a team of associates and/or volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identified resident needs, interests, desires and preferences for activities upon move in.
- Prepares a monthly calendar of activities and distributes it one week in advance of its implementation. Posts the calendar. Amends the schedule to reflect changes and maintains records for three years.
- Schedules a diverse program that reflects such things as the residents' interests, physical and mental capabilities and backgrounds. Elicits input from the residents in planning the program.
- Ensures that the program provides opportunities for active and passive participation, and includes individual, small group and large group activities.
- Purchases supplies, food and decorations for social/recreational/holiday events. In conjunction with the residents, Food Service and Executive Director plans meals for special occasions.
- Decorates and facilitates the decoration of the residence for holidays and/or special occasions.
- Manages and stays within limits of the life Enrichment budget.
- Gives physical assistance to the residents as needed for such things as getting in or out of a vehicle.
- Develop and produce monthly newsletters.
- Facilitate and participate in New Resident Orientation.
- Serve as the liaison for the Resident Council, fostering communication and discussing concerns while maintaining a record of the Council meetings.
- Transport residents to and from activities, appointments, etc. as required.
- Posts and/or distributes information and materials regarding events and activities.
- Interview, hire, train, and oversee associates
- Maintains attendance records for all scheduled activities
- Recruits, trains and supervises all volunteers, when appropriate.
- Participates in community public relations.
- Participates in in-service programs, as needed
- Develops an annual budget, which includes supplies and equipment costs necessary to carry out the program. (Budget/costs to be approved by the Executive Director.)
- Controls cost, purchases and inventories supplies and equipment. Inspects recreation equipment to determine repair, maintenance needs and cleanliness.
- Attends mealtime activities, including escorting residents to the dining room.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Schedules transportation on facility van.
- Escorts residents on scheduled outings.
