Position Title: Radiology Technologist II
Location: Lancaster, SC and Kershaw, SC.
Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Clinical Manager
Job Summary:
Radiology Technologist II performs diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-ray, CT, and DEXA scans. The technologist will demonstrate independent proficiency in radiologic technology, patient care, and safety protocols. This role requires adherence to radiation protection guidelines and collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality diagnostic imaging.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform X-ray and CT scans following established protocols; perform DEXA scans if applicable.
- Apply knowledge of anatomy, positioning, and radiographic techniques to accurately depict anatomical structures on a radiograph.
- Obtain high-resolution images for accurate diagnosis.
- Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and ensure proper use of lead shielding and protective measures.
- Review images for clarity and accuracy before submitting them for interpretation.
- Maintain and calibrate imaging equipment to ensure proper functioning; perform quality control and quality assurance checks.
- Document patient information, imaging procedures, and observations in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Educate patients on exam procedures, address their concerns, and provide reassurance throughout imaging.
- Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and healthcare team members to support patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and sterile work environment.
- Stay updated with advancements in radiologic technology and participate in continuing education and training.
- Demonstrate competence to provide developmentally appropriate care for patients of all ages.
- Recognize emergency patient conditions and initiate lifesaving first aid.
- Maintain accurate patient records and comply with regulatory requirements like HIPAA.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology.
- ARRT certification in Radiography (R) and Computed Tomography (CT); DEXA certification preferred.
- Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association.
- Experience in medical imaging, including X-ray and CT.
- Strong understanding of radiation safety protocols and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Excellent patient care skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Expertise in Picture Archiving and Communication systems (PACS).
- EMR experience, preferably Athena.
- Phlebotomy experience and qualifications preferred.
- BLS is required; ACLS certification is preferred.
Work Environment:
- Work in a healthcare setting, including an outpatient imaging center and physician offices.
- Exposed to radiation, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols and use of protective equipment.
- Work in varying temperatures within imaging rooms and clinical environments.
- Exposed to biohazards, infectious diseases, and bodily fluids, following proper infection control and PPE guidelines.
- Work under time constraints and in fast-paced situations, including responding to emergencies.
