PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION: 

The Mine Operations Manager is accountable for organizing, staffing, and managing the safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations of Robinson Nevada Mining Company. Ensure short and long-term budgeted productivity, quality, technical, cost, safety, training and environmental objectives are achieved in a union free workplace.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
• Enforce company and department safety and occupational health policies and MSHA regulations. Responsible for ensuring a safe work environment with a continuous focus on improving the safety cultures and safety performance of the mine.
• Responsible for employee training and development in the Mine Operations department. Specific activities include staffing, training staff, progression plan administration, work practices, skills development, available mine equipment and production plan commitments.
• Oversee execution of a mine plan, including continual technical and procedural improvements in mine operations to ensure achievement of a predictable Life of Mine plan, production volume and ore quality in order to meet deadlines and cost goals.
• Development of all mine operations expense and capital budgets, including workforce planning.
• Evaluate, coordinate, and implement all phases of mining activities including drilling and blasting, waste removal, water management, and ore haulage.
• Develop and adhere to all mine related capital and operating expense budgets.
• Work collaboratively with mine maintenance, mine engineering, support services, human resources, safety, supply chain, finance, and process areas to achieve all business plan objectives.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and damage or delays, to ensure that proper procedures are being carried out.
• Utilize external support services as required.
• Willingness to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of KGHM.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

• Minimum of ten years in a senior mine management/operations capacity in a copper or equivalent base or precious metals open pit operation holding increasing levels of responsibility.
• Bachelor of Science in Mining, Geological or Civil Engineering. Equivalent experience (15 years or greater) is acceptable in lieu of a technical degree.
• A valid Driver’s License.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

• An advanced degree and or MBA is desirable.

  TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• Knowledge of open pit operations including a strong problem solving ability in a technically difficult ore body.
• Strong Character with exceptional leadership and management skills.
• Must be highly motivated and have the ability to multi task in a highly dynamic production work team environment.
• Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and government agencies.
• Strong safety commitment and improvement mindset.
• Moderate to advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite; Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Project.
• Advanced knowledge of mine planning and geological related software programs.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• Occasional, as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ability to listen to employees’ suggestions and concerns.
• Responsible for communicating goals and information to Mine Operation department employees.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and lead the Mine Operation team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Light: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.  Even when weight lifted is negligible, a job is rated light when: 1) it involves walking or standing to a significant degree: 2) it requires sitting most of the time but involves pushing and or pulling of arm or leg controls: 3) it involves working at a production rate that requires constant pushing or pulling of materials.
