We are seeking a Design Assistant to support our interior design team in an office-based role, with minimal fieldwork required.
This position is 90% office-based with occasional field visits (approximately 10%) for showroom coordination, material selection, and assisting with design verification on-site.
Job Overview
The Design Assistant will work primarily in an office setting, supporting the lead designers in material selection, project coordination, administrative tasks, and vendor communication. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple design-related responsibilities efficiently.
While this position will focus on office-based work, some limited field visits may be required for on-site material verification, showroom coordination, or client meetings.
Key ResponsibilitiesOffice-Based Responsibilities (90%)
- Assist in developing architectural, interior, and cabinet designs that align with homeowner visions and project budgets.
- Support the design team with preparing drawings, mood boards, and design presentations using software tools.
- Schedule and attend client meetings (virtually or in-office) to confirm design requirements and material selections.
- Order, track, and manage showroom materials, ensuring selections are available and organized.
- Maintain accurate records of vendor logs, project updates, and client selections in the internal CRM system.
- Coordinate with cabinet fabricators and vendors to ensure timely delivery and quality assurance of design materials.
- Monitor active designs and schedules using Buildertrend, forecasting project timelines and flagging potential delays.
- Conduct quality assurance checks on designs before final approvals, ensuring accuracy in material specifications and project scope.
- Assist with permit paperwork and submission coordination with city and county departments.
- Limited Field Responsibilities (10%)
- Visit project sites occasionally for material verification, showroom coordination, and design execution support.
- Assist lead designers with measurements or layout verification when required.
- Attend select vendor meetings or showroom visits to source new design materials when necessary.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Background in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- 1 year of design or administrative support experience in a construction, remodeling, or interior design environment.
- Technical Skills
- Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Chief Architect, or 2020 Cabinet Vision is a plus.
- Basic understanding of building codes, material specifications, and design principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for tracking designs and managing project data.
- Soft Skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to support client and vendor interactions.
- Ability to work independently in an office setting while coordinating with remote teams and vendors.
- Detail-oriented mindset to ensure accuracy in all aspects of design documentation.
Other Requirements
- Ability to occasionally travel for showroom visits, vendor meetings, or brief on-site assistance.
- Must have reliable transportation for limited fieldwork requirements.
