COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER ASSIGNMENT SUMMARY
Kheir Clinic is actively seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Communications Manager to join our dedicated team within our nonprofit organization. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Kheir Clinic is committed to delivering culturally and linguistically sensitive healthcare and human services at minimal or no cost to underserved and uninsured residents of Los Angeles. Currently, our organization operates six healthcare sites, serving approximately 19,000 patients and facilitating over 65,000 clinic visits each year.
The Communications Manager role presents a unique opportunity to enhance the visibility and impact of our services within the community. This position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including public relations, marketing, and fundraising initiatives. The successful candidate will lead our external affairs and communications team, focusing on elevating awareness of Kheir Clinic's services and achievements while fostering engagement with our supporters, partners, volunteers, and other key community stakeholders.
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage communications activities and initiatives to advance Kheir’s strategic priorities, promote collaboration and partnership, and engage supporters, donors and volunteers.
- Create and drive communications plans that integrate messaging across multiple channels. Establish team and individual goals and supervise progress towards objectives. Utilize analytics to identify problem areas, and implement strategies for improvement.
- Identify innovative strategies for engaging Kheir’s stakeholders, including donors, elected officials, partner organizations, volunteers, staff, and local businesses.
- Develop multicultural marketing campaigns targeting low-income individuals, immigrants, and other priority populations. Supervise the creation of content for digital, print, radio, and digital advertisements. Ensure consistent messaging, tone, voice, and branding across platforms.
- Manage Kheir’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Write, edit, and supervise the development of social media content. Ensure that content is consistent and tailored to engage target populations (donors, patients, partners, youth). Create and implement strategies for increasing followers and engagement.
- Develop and create public relations materials, including e-blasts, videos, social media posts, blogs, reports, articles, reports, and website content. Ensure that materials are promoted appropriately for maximum engagement.
- Create and coordinate purchasing of print collateral and promotional items.
- Plan and execute Kheir's annual Fundraising Dinner, including coordination of awards ceremony, VIP reception, Silent Auction, sponsorship solicitation, elected official participation, venue logistics, printing and graphics, and all other details related to the event.
- Plan agency events, including press conferences, appearances with elected officials and celebrity supporters, grand openings & ribbon cuttings, and events for patients and their families (holiday toy giveaway, back to school resource fair, etc.).
- Oversee media relations. Write and edit press releases, and supervise communication with multilingual media outlets to ensure ample coverage, consistent messaging and well-attended media events.
- Respond to media requests and coordinate interviews and segments with staff.
- Ensure regular updates to Kheir’s website.
- Manage government affairs and advocacy projects. Serve as agency liaison for elected officials and government agencies. Organize opportunities for collaboration with elected representatives and community stakeholders to promote relevant healthcare programs, legislation, and awareness campaigns.
- Produce videos showcasing patient stories, clinic activities, award recipients, and clinic staff.
- Support strategic planning efforts with fellow managers and staff to ensure that priorities are in alignment with Kheir’s long-term goals, mission, vision and core values.
- Promote Kheir’s presence in the local clinic community and leverage relationships to establish and maintain corporate, nonprofit and government partnerships.
- Serve as an in-house expert on company branding, messaging, and partnerships.
- Supervise external affairs and communications staff, and provide advisement and guidance for selected development/administrative employees.
- Ensure that the External Affairs calendar is maintained and updated on a regular basis.
- Other special projects and duties as assigned.
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Business, Public Health, or related field
- Must have minimum 5 years of paid work experience in the field of communications
- Must have minimum 1 year of direct supervisory experience of paid employees
- Must have superior writing, editing, and public speaking skills
- Must be extremely well-versed in Microsoft Office platforms, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Publisher
- Follow up on assignments, show initiative, be self-motivated, and have a strong work ethic
- Excellent time management skills, including deadline prioritization of multiple projects with real-time timelines for assignments
- Flexibility to work occasional nights & weekends
- Strong commitment to producing quality work
- Can be trusted to handle confidential and sensitive information
- Must be able to perform work onsite in an office setting (this is not a remote position)
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with staff, patients, and community partners.
- Demonstrated ability to develop programs that address diverse community needs.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple initiatives effectively.
- Korean Bilingual required
