Position Summary

The Development & Marketing Officer ("Development Officer") is a results-oriented professional with a passion for driving excellence in nonprofit development and marketing. Reporting directly to and working closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Development Officer will develop and execute strategies that advance the organization's mission and future goals. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned strategic development professional to shape and influence Kheir's direction through targeted external affairs, marketing, and public relations initiatives related to fundraising. The role is responsible for cultivating and elevating Kheir's brand and image to foster donor, community, and patient engagement, generate financial support, and drive meaningful impact. The ideal candidate is creative, curious, and thrives in a fast-paced environment, operating with minimal supervision while maintaining a strong sense of urgency, accountability, and a commitment to excellence.

A key aspect of this role is leading, coaching, and supervising the Development and External Affairs teams, fostering a culture of independence, strategic thinking, and high performance. The Officer is responsible for using metrics to measure success, ensuring team accountability, and driving continuous improvement. Embracing Kheir's Standard of Excellence, the Officer rejects status quo, mediocrity and average performance, opting instead for innovative approaches to nonprofit marketing and donor cultivation.

Key Responsibilities

Brand Cultivation, and Community Engagement

  • Strategically position Kheir as a trusted source and impactful organization through innovative marketing and communication strategies.
  • Build and sustain meaningful relationships with funders, volunteers, community members, and patients to enhance engagement and trust.
  • Develop and execute internal and external customer campaigns and initiatives that highlight Kheir's mission, impact, and success stories. Donor / Customer Development and Fundraising : o Design and implement data-driven donor and customer engagement strategies to drive financial support and long-term commitment.
  • Oversee, develop, write and edit content for print and digital materials that show Kheir's impact, including e-blasts, videos, social media, flyers, brochures, reports, fact sheets, blogs, video scripts, website content, etc.
  • Ensure that Kheir's social media presence (through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other sites) is relevant, consistent and tailored to engage target populations (donors, supporters, patient / client population, partners, youth, etc.).
  • Track and report on donor development metrics, analyzing performance and identifying opportunities for growth.

Team Leadership and Coaching : o Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to the Development and External Affairs teams, fostering an accountable, high-performance culture.

  • Empower team members to think strategically, work independently, and deliver results without micromanagement. o Encourage professional growth and skill development among team members. o Monitor team progress, provide constructive feedback, and ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Event Management and Grant Oversight : o Oversee the Grant Writer's development and submission of foundation, corporate, and government grant proposals and reports; write selected applications and reports as needed.

  • Use metrics to evaluate the success of events and grants, identifying areas for improvement and growth.
  • Oversee, develop, and edit content for print and digital materials that strengthen the Kheir brand, including e-blasts, videos, social media, flyers, reports, fact sheets, website, etc.
  • Support press release creation and distribution to ensure consistent messaging and successful media events.
  • Manage public relations initiatives and programs to increase Kheir's visibility, promote collaboration and partnership, improve patient experience, and engage new and existing supporters.
  • Support a comprehensive, strategic fundraising plan with specific, measurable goals that will enable Kheir to meet its current budget forecast and future goals; oversee implementation of that plan (initial annual target of $2 Million funds awarded).
  • Take ultimate responsibility for the success of key events, including the annual gala, ensuring all components are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Manage Kheir's section 330 Community Health Center grants, collaborating with other departments to ensure compliance with federal funding requirements, and submit reports and other documents as requested by HRSA.
  • Serve as a Kheir representative at special events. Accountability and Metrics-Driven Performance : o Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success across marketing, donor development, events, and grants.
  • Regularly analyze and report on metrics to inform strategic decisions and drive continuous improvement. Operational Excellence :
  • Ensure reliability in time management, attendance, and adherence to deadlines across all activities.
  • Uphold and promote Kheir's Standard of Excellence in all initiatives, striving for exceptional deliverables and intended outcomes.
  • Drive innovation and challenge the status quo, pushing the boundaries of nonprofit development and marketing.
  • Support and guide the team to serve as exemplary representatives of the organization, consistently showcasing deep organizational knowledge and professionalism in their demeanor. Qualifications and Skills : o Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master's preferred) with minimum 8 to 10-year experience in project and people management.
  • Proven experience in marketing, customer experience, project management, and team leadership within a professional environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience using metrics to measure success and inform strategy. o Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams, coaching employees, and fostering professional growth. o A proactive, confident, self-directed work style with a high level of independence and accountability. o Experience overseeing large-scale events and managing grant, marketing or customer-focused writing processes.
