What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Coder position at Kickapoo Tribal Health Center?
General Description:
This position organizationally falls under the Business Office Director of the Kickapoo Tribal Health Center McLoud, Oklahoma, as operated by the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. Operational hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. or as may be needed to serve the health care needs of the population. The purpose of this position is to review the contents of the health record by verifying, assembling, analyzing for health record completion. Assigns a diagnosis code from the ICD 10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding manuals to each record for third party reimbursement. Abstracts key data elements to facilitate the billing process and to maintain a clinical and financial data base. Performs duties in support of the Health Center’s mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner.
Work Experience and/or Education:
High School Diploma
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in coding using ICD-10-CM and CPT
Medical Coding Certificate, CPC OR RHIT by AAPC or AHIMA, preferred
Working knowledge of IHS RPMS EHR and/or VA clinical software system
Requirements:
All applicants tentatively selected for employment will be required to submit to an oral drug screen to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random drug testing throughout employment.
Proof of current MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, and Tdap immunizations are required for all Health Center employees.
Will be required to have an OSBI and Federal background clearance.
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
