Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Ashland, MA
About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Ashland, MA. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing manufacturing layouts and processes to enhance product performance and operational efficiency. The company s Kidde Fire Systems and Kidde Fire Protection brands produce highly engineered fire suppression, detection and control systems in the industrial, commercial and marine end markets, while Fenwal Controls serves OEMs in diverse end markets with products for gas ignition, temperature control, and fire and overheat detection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and lead Process Certification, Lean Transformation, and other Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives across operations.
- Identify and analyze waste (Muda) in manufacturing processes and collaborate with finance to quantify waste in alignment with business goals.
- Facilitate improvement projects such as Quick- and Standard-Kaizen events using the PDCA methodology.
- Lead Pro-Cert initiatives, including but not limited to PFMEA, Gauge R&R, capability studies, control plans, and periodic process capability audits.
- Develop and maintain factory-wide workflow systems, including QCPC, Tool Request, RPA (Request for Production Assistance), and CI certification levels.
- Actively participate in company-wide CI assessments and evaluations.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- 3 to 5 years proven experience as a manufacturing engineer in a medium-volume, high-product-variability manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with lean manufacturing projects, Six Sigma, and SPC tools and methodologies.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to drive change and foster collaboration across various organizational levels.
- Bachelor s degree in engineering or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency with root cause analysis tools such as 5W 1H, 4M, and 5Why.
- Familiarity with World Class Manufacturing, the Toyota Production System, or equivalent methodologies.
- Expertise in specific pillars, including Workplace Organization, Focused Improvement, Autonomous Maintenance, and Logistics.
Role Objectives:
- Champion a cultural shift toward data-driven decision-making.
- Support teams during the transition to adopting root cause analysis as a standard practice.
- Continuously identify operational losses, define and track new inefficiencies, and implement strategies to reduce or eliminate them.
