Job Overview:

The VPK Teacher is responsible for providing a high-quality, developmentally appropriate preschool education to children aged 4 to 5 years old, ensuring their cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth. The teacher will implement the curriculum designed for Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) programs while fostering a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Curriculum Implementation:
• Plan, organize, and implement developmentally appropriate activities based on the VPK curriculum standards.
• Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet the individual learning needs of each child.
• Incorporate literacy, numeracy, science, social studies, arts, and physical education into daily activities.
• Classroom Management:
• Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and nurturing classroom environment.
• Establish and enforce age-appropriate behavior expectations and routines.
• Manage classroom materials and resources effectively, ensuring a clean, organized learning space.
• Assessments and Progress Monitoring:
• Conduct ongoing assessments of children’s progress using formal and informal methods.
• Prepare progress reports and communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding children’s development.
• Use assessment data to adjust teaching strategies and activities to meet individual needs.
• Parent and Family Engagement:
• Build strong relationships with families through regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, and involvement in classroom activities.
• Provide resources and suggestions to parents for supporting their child’s development at home.
• Compliance and Safety:
• Follow all state and local guidelines for VPK programs, ensuring all requirements are met.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment, including following child supervision protocols and emergency procedures.
• Stay current with VPK regulations and best practices in early childhood education.
• Professional Development:
• Attend professional development workshops and trainings to stay up-to-date on current educational practices and early childhood development.
• Collaborate with colleagues and participate in staff meetings and professional learning communities.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• The Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential is required.
• Must hold a valid VPK certification or be in the process of obtaining it.
• Experience:
• Prior experience teaching preschool-aged children, preferably in a VPK or similar early childhood education setting.
• Skills:
• Strong understanding of child development principles.
• Ability to create a positive and stimulating learning environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both with children and adults.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9AM-6:00PM.
• Classroom setting with interaction with children, parents, and staff.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit on the floor, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to supervise and actively engage with children throughout the day.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
