Job Overview:
The VPK Teacher is responsible for providing a high-quality, developmentally appropriate preschool education to children aged 4 to 5 years old, ensuring their cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth. The teacher will implement the curriculum designed for Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) programs while fostering a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Implementation:
- Plan, organize, and implement developmentally appropriate activities based on the VPK curriculum standards.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet the individual learning needs of each child.
- Incorporate literacy, numeracy, science, social studies, arts, and physical education into daily activities.
- Classroom Management:
- Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Establish and enforce age-appropriate behavior expectations and routines.
- Manage classroom materials and resources effectively, ensuring a clean, organized learning space.
- Assessments and Progress Monitoring:
- Conduct ongoing assessments of children’s progress using formal and informal methods.
- Prepare progress reports and communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding children’s development.
- Use assessment data to adjust teaching strategies and activities to meet individual needs.
- Parent and Family Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with families through regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, and involvement in classroom activities.
- Provide resources and suggestions to parents for supporting their child’s development at home.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Follow all state and local guidelines for VPK programs, ensuring all requirements are met.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment, including following child supervision protocols and emergency procedures.
- Stay current with VPK regulations and best practices in early childhood education.
- Professional Development:
- Attend professional development workshops and trainings to stay up-to-date on current educational practices and early childhood development.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in staff meetings and professional learning communities.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- The Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential is required.
- Must hold a valid VPK certification or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Experience:
- Prior experience teaching preschool-aged children, preferably in a VPK or similar early childhood education setting.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of child development principles.
- Ability to create a positive and stimulating learning environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both with children and adults.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9AM-6:00PM.
- Classroom setting with interaction with children, parents, and staff.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit on the floor, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to supervise and actively engage with children throughout the day.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
