Medical Office Specialist duties:
- Obtaining, entering and updating patient's demographics and insurance information in the EHR software.
- Verifying insurance information and patient's eligibility providing financial clearance prior to appointments by calling insurance companies or checking multiple electronic verification systems to verify current health insurance coverage.
- Obtain insurance authorization for visit, labs and tests ordered .
- Assist with the new patient's referral process.
- Mediate between patients and the practice billing company.
- Provide / update / facilitate the billing company with all respective billing related documents daily per their request and office related billing issues.
- Knowledge executing tasks related to office billing duties assigned by the billing company
- Review the daily reports from copays and payments received in the office.
- Faxing and scanning billing related documents and medical records.
- Complete other clerical duties as assigned by the management team including but not limited to scanning, faxing, copying.
- Assist with managing with all incoming phone calls .
- Proficient with collecting balance for the medical service provided turned into collections.
Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):
- Obtain patient's weight, assist patient with completing and updating forms
- Reviewing doctor's written instructions and recommendations with patient
- Collecting urine samples.
- Checkout skills : Arranging for laboratory and imaging orders, providing pts with copies of orders, reviewing doctor's instruction with accuracy .
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- MUST have a minimum of 1 yr prior experience with the duties listed above in a doctor's office.
- Experience in maintaining patient files and updating electronic health records in a doctor's office.
- 1 year experience with medical office patient's collections.
- Must have at least 1 year experience entering insurance information, eligibility clearance,prior authorizations, assisting the practice billing company and patients with all office billing duties
