STEM GROUP LEADER: JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:
Kids Can Community Center is a youth serving non-profit organization serving children across the Omaha metropolitan area. At Kids Can our mission is to educate, engage, and inspire children through early childhood care and out-of-school experiences. The purpose of the STEM Program Leader position is to collaborate with the STEM Program Specialist in development and implementation of high-quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programming to elementary students across the agency. This position is responsible for providing direct instruction, co-teaching, and assisting group leaders, along with collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, and maintaining a working knowledge of best practices in STEM instruction.
Essential Duties:
· Direct instruction, co-teaching, and modeling STEM instruction to group leaders in afterschool and full-day programs with program emphasis on Robotics, 3D printing, Esports, Drones, Virtual Reality, and Kids Can STEM SMART curriculum.
· Test and provide feedback on new curriculum and programs.
· Provide maintenance to, resupply, and transport STEM equipment for agency sites.
· Establish a safe, healthy, supportive, and collaborative learning environment for students and group leaders.
· Align activities with student interests and allow for flexibility in content week to week.
· Complete training with STEM program specialist on Kids Can STEM SMART curriculum and various initiatives to support implementation.
· Maintain personal knowledge of the evolving field of STEM education including theory and pedagogy of hands-on and inquiry-based education, to continue to grow and develop STEM programs within the agency.
Education, Skills and Experience:
· High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled at an accredited college/university in Education or STEM-Related Field preferred.
· Ability to work both collaboratively and independently; establish and maintain project deadlines; and travel to all agency sites for regular STEM program implementation.
· Ability to effectively work with group leaders and children along with a diverse range of people.
· A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required. Hiring is contingent upon approval from the Nebraska Central Registry of Child Abuse and Neglect, Nebraska Adult Protective Services Registry, Kids Can’s vehicle insurance company and submission of a felony/misdemeanor statement.
· Experience teaching or leading in a STEM program. (preferred)
· Knowledge of STEM learning structures and guiding principles, pedagogical practices in STEM related programming. (preferred)
Ongoing/In-Service Requirements:
· Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid and additional requirements as needed.
· Obtain a minimum adequate annual training to maintain high quality instructional leadership. Training must include, but is not limited to safe environments, healthy environments, learning environments, physical development, cognitive learning, communication, creative learning, self-esteem, social development, guidance, family relationships, program management, and professionalism.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
· Must be able to walk the building (including staircases).
· Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs.
· Must be able to handle the physical and mental demands of caring for children.
· Must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 per hour
