Position Summary:

Kids Can Community Center is a non-profit organization founded in 1908. Our mission is to educate, engage, and inspire children through early childhood care and out-of-school experiences. The Out-of-School Program works to support students’ development of academic competencies, future focus, and positive behaviors.

The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the Director in the oversight and management of the afterschool and full day programs. Duties include supporting scheduling, managing and supporting teaching staff, curriculum development, staff training, and general administrative tasks. The Assistant Director will support and assume responsibilities of the Director when the Director is off-site.

The Assistant Site Director position works 30 hours per week, with a general shift of 1 PM to 6:00 PM.

The Assistant Director Supports the Director in the Following Essential Functions:

Program Design and Implementation:

· Ability to create and lead staff in the development of engaging, developmentally appropriate activities in a wide variety of areas including social-emotional learning, academics, enrichment, and recreation.

· Assist in program planning, preparation, and provide support to Group Leaders.

· Ability to observe student behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques and positive redirection to support positive behavior and choices.

· Take initiative in researching, proposing, and implementing innovative and best practices.

· Adhere to Kids Can safety expectations, implement safety plans, carry out drills to be tracked as appropriate.

Staff Development:

· Participate in recruiting, hiring, training and supervision of program staff.

· Facilitate staff training and staff meetings to ensure quality programming and coordination.

· Supervise, train, mentor, coach and manage all staff and volunteers in the program.

· Ensure all staff have necessary support to carry out Kids Can programming.

· Train staff and volunteers on procedures, routines, and program quality.

· Supports and implements human resources policies and procedures.

Assessment and Program Quality:

· Administer all evaluation including student, parent, and community partner surveys and assessments meeting return rate goals.

· Analyze various data to make program adjustments and improvements.

· Complete all state and grant required assessments, observations, and documentation.

Administration and Oversight:

· Responsible for providing a physically and emotionally safe space.

· Reporting and documentation of injuries or incidents including child abuse and neglect.

· Manage student enrollment.

· Maintain strict confidentiality in record keeping and student and staff personal information.

· Understand and monitor program compliance for state licensing rules, regulations, and policies.

· Monitor and support families in the enrollment of Child Care Subsidies and adhere to Child Care Subsidy regulations.

· Awareness and adherence to program budgets.

· Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Qualifications

· Successfully pass background checks that meet compliance requirements.

· Some college in education, early childhood education, or human services – or - high school diploma and verified 1,500 hours worked in education setting.

Required Skills

· Knowledge (or training completion) of curriculum, principles, and best practices in the out-of-school field.

· Ability to problem solve and quickly adapt when needed.

· Knowledge of state licensing requirements.

· Excellent communication skills: work effectively as a team (communicate with others, resolve conflicts, and offer solutions to problems).

· Ability to be cooperative and adaptive in the team environment.

· Demonstrate self-awareness and the ability to think about others perspectives.

· A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required. Hiring is contingent upon approval from the Nebraska Central Registry of Child Abuse and Neglect, Nebraska Adult Protective Services Registry.

· Maintain appropriate boundaries and prioritize confidentiality.

· Ability to operate a computer and utilize various software as required.

Ongoing/In-Service Requirements:

· Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid and additional requirements as needed.

· Obtain a minimum adequate annual training to maintain high quality leadership. Training must include, but is not limited to safe environments, healthy environments, learning environments, physical development, cognitive learning, communication, creative learning, self-esteem, social development, guidance, family relationships, program management, and professionalism.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

· Must be able to handle the physical demands of caring for children (i.e. ability to walk or run, kneel or sit on floor, bend and lift, walk over uneven ground, etc.)

· Ability to lift 50 pounds.

· Must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.

· Must be able to walk the building (including staircases) and assist children.
