General Summary:
Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). Nurse Practitioners serve as patient’s primary health care provider and see infants, children, and adolescents from birth up to the age of 18. Nurse Practitioners treat both physical and mental conditions through comprehensive history taking, physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests. Diagnoses certain diseases and provide appropriate treatment to include prescribing select medications.
Employment Status: Salaried – FSLA Exempt Status
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Diagnosing, treating, evaluating and managing acute and chronic illness and disease.
2. Obtain medical histories and conducts physical examination.
3. Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies.
4. Prescribes physical therapy and other rehabilitation treatments.
5. Provides prenatal care and family planning services.
6. Provides well-child care, including screening and immunizations.
7. Provides primary and specialty care services, health-maintenance care for adults.
8. Performs or assists in minor surgeries and procedures.
9. Counsels and educates patients on health behaviors, self-care skills and treatment options.
10. Provides health services including but not limited to screening, triage, testing, diagnosis, and treatment at the health center or offsite, including offsite programs or events and whether in-person or through telehealth.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of preventative medicine, nutrition, wellness and health education.
2. Knowledge of the professional medical practice and care to give and evaluate patient care.
3. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer care.
4. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
5. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care.
Qualifications:
1. Successful completion of an accredited school of nursing for Registered Nursing and graduate-level Nurse Practitioner Program (Master’s or Doctorate degree).
2. National board certification in area of specialty.
3. Current License to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Georgia.
4. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate.
5. Experience in Pediatrics NP.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual and hearing. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
Typical Working Conditions:
1. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
2. Occasional evening or weekend work.
