WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Kids in the Game is looking for Head Counselors and Assistant Counselors that will work closely with their Division Leaders, Specialists and the Directors Camp Director to make the 2025 summer the best one ever. You will also be going on field trips, playing sports, and changing kids’ lives all day long doing your best to make it the best part of their day. Most importantly you will be providing a supportive, safe, and fun environment for the youth of New York City to grow and learn while experiencing the non-stop fun of Summer Camp!
The Camp Counselor is responsible for general supervision of all campers within their assigned group as well as the overall safety and support of all children attending camp. Activity planning and facilitating are among other key responsibilities.
- Ensure activities are engaging, educational, and contribute to the overall camp experience.
- Work to reduce conflict among campers, create a team-friendly environment with positivity.
- Plan and execute the age appropriate team time activities that support the weekly themes.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers by actively supervising activities, monitoring their behavior, and implementing safety protocols.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to campers, helping them navigate social interactions, homesickness, and other challenges.
- Encourage and reinforce good sportsmanship, cooperation, and the importance of environmental stewardship.
- Assist in the daily upkeep of camp facilities, ensuring a clean and organized environment.
- Foster a sense of community and camaraderie during special event and team activities.
- Maintain accurate records of camper attendance, incidents, and any notable achievements.
- Attend staff outings to take a break and enjoy time with coworkers outside of camp
- Commitment to at least 3 days of training leading up to the first week of camp; Dates TBD but likely Saturdays before camp begins
- Assist with aftercare at least one day a week to support the team
Pre-Summer & Summer Work Schedule:
- Pre Summer Camp Expectations:
- Part time virtual and on site training commitment throughout the end of May and the month of June
- Specialist trainings (in person and virtual)
- Virtual trainings start within the first two weeks of June
- Onsite Trainings will happen 3 days of the week prior to the first week of your camp start date.

- Summer Camp Expectations:
- Full-time, in-person work at a designated camp site for a camp with 60 campers and 20 staff members over a 7 or 8-week period during the summer
- Require Availability: June 14 – August 22, 2025
- Includes pre-camp training & 7 to 8 weeks of camp
- Daily Schedule: Monday – Friday (7:45a – 4:15p)
- Supporting at least one day per week of aftercare until 5:30pm

Compensation Range:
This is a part-time, seasonal position based in New York City. Camp Counselors must be available to participate in pre-summer trainings (virtual and on-site) to complete pre-summer work expectations. Camp Counselors must be available to work full summer camp hours from late June to the end of August.
Pre Summer Compensation - $355
- $120 for virtual trainings ($30 per training session)
- $180 for all 3 on-site training days ($60 per day)
- $55 for an in-person field day in June
- Training attendance is mandatory; you will only be paid for the trainings that you attend / complete on time.
- You must complete all virtual and in-person training.
Summer Compensation:
Note: Individual pay rates are based on camp enrollment (number of campers per week) and prior years of experience in similar roles and prior sports-related experience.
- Pay Schedule: Biweekly salary payments from July - August 2025
- Riverdale, Inwood, UES Carnegie Hill, Yorkville, East Village, West Village, and Greenpoint will run for 8 weeks
- Park Slope, Fort Greene, Westchester-Crestwood and UWS camp locations will run for 7 weeks
- Total salary range based on 8 weeks of summer camp:
- $450 to $600 per week
- 8 week camp salary range (without the training stipend)
- $3,600 to $4,800
- 8 week camp salary range (without the training stipend)
- $450 to $600 per week
- Total salary range based on 7 weeks of summer camp:
- $450 to $600 per week
- 7 week camp salary range (without the training stipend)
- $3,150 to $4,200

Qualifications
Our ideal candidate would meet some or all of the following qualifications:
- A candidate who is truly Amazing with children!
- Up to date Physical and TB test documentation will be required before starting
- You must pass a NY State run background check
- Being CPR, First Aid and AED certified is a plus
- Possess at least two years of experience working with campers required; experience leading recreation programs/activities; experience leading groups of varying sizes
- Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents and caregivers
- Possess the ability to communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with participants, families and caregivers, both verbally and non-verbally
- Demonstrates practical problem solving skills in a variety of situations.
