Licensed Practical Nurse

Job Summary

Licensed Practical nurses provide direct care to patients and maintain proper documentation of this care. This care is always provided in accordance with State and Federal requirements.

Requirements and skills

• Licensed as Practical Nurse in Florida,
• Current CPR Certification
• Eligible Background screening result from the Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA).
• Pediatric experience (minimum of 1 year)
• Basic level computer skills
• Neonatal, critical care experience preferred
• Must also have excellent oral communication skills when speaking with other health professionals in the presence of patients (i.e., “bedside manner”)
• Must have reliable transportation to arrive on time.
• Must be able to meet physical demands generally required to perform critical tasks in support of critical job functions, for example - sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Must be able to see and listen clearly to appropriately monitor the patient and associated medical equipment.
• Must be capable of responding to emergency situations calmly and efficiently

Responsibilities:

• Performs nursing assessment & evaluates findings.
• Prepares clinical & progress notes.
• Assists the RN in performing specialized procedures.
• Prepares equipment & materials for treatments.
• Assists the patient in learning appropriate self-care techniques.
• Carries out the intervention & actions in the patient’s P.O.C.
• Assures that patient/family are involved in implementing the P.O.C. for the patient.
• Assists in reviewing, evaluating, & updating the patient P.O.C. as appropriate.
• Observes signs, symptoms, & reports to the RN reactions to treatments, & changes in the patient’s overall condition.
• Maintains accurate & complete records of observations, treatments, & care of patient in a timely manner.
• Initiates preventative & nursing procedures as appropriate for the patient’s care & safety.
• Submits any changes in schedule to RN daily.
• Attends & participates in patient care conferences to discuss the need for involvement of other members.
• Evaluates with RN the effectiveness of the LPN’s nursing service to the individual & family under the guidance of the RN.
• Provides appropriate information regarding patient to agencies/ individuals involved in patient’s care as needed.
• Observes confidentiality & safeguards all patient related information.
• Immediately reports any patient incidents/accidents to DON.
