Kids Play Gym, a sensory-friendly play facility in Bloomington, IN, is now seeking a Play Based Behavior Technician. The technician provides quality and engaging ABA therapy services to children with autism, with collaboration of the client’s family and care team, including the BCBA. The therapist will document therapy services, progress notes, and all other paperwork in accordance with standards and billing requirements. We are a local family owned small business, that provides a natural environment and play-based approach to teaching children ages 2-8 new skills that help facilitate learning. Major Responsibilities:
- Assess clients’ needs, skills, behaviors, and development and initiated ABA interventions from developed behavior plan that is written by the BCBA. Support client’s optimal functional development.
- Work cooperatively with other client team personnel in maintaining quality care and interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Perform aspects of client care in a way that prioritizes client safety and reduces likelihood of medical or health care errors, including physical and emotional safety.
- Ability to complete all necessary documentation properly, responsibly, and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate knowledge, proficiency, and effectiveness related to behavior management, ABA therapy, natural environment teaching, and all other aspects of client-care.
- Treat clients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Identify and address all client needs appropriately, professionally, and respectfully.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with client, client families, and client care teams, as well as with other Kids Play Gym staff and volunteers.
- Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized, and function in stressful situations.
- Demonstrate understanding of behavior as well as competency, initiative, and appropriateness in behavior management techniques. Places an emphasis on proactive strategies related to behavior management. Ability to follow a behavior plan related to behavior management.
- Assist with and participate in all necessary staff in-services, meetings, events, and training's.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Provide feedback regarding client progress to client’s BCBA (and other service providers)
- Provide holistic care, including instruction and support to client as well as to client’s family.
- Engage client in inclusive environment, particularly supporting social skill development in a community setting.
- Promote the development of functional communication skills
- Maintain HIPAA compliance
- Complete and assist with cleaning tasks as needed.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- One or more years of previous experience practicing ABA therapy preferred but not required.
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Quality customer service skills
- At least one year of experience working with kids with autism ideal
- Professional, reliable, and responsible
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Recreational Therapy, Public Health, Psychology, Communication Disorders, Education, Health Psychology, Youth Development, Social Work or related field strongly preferred but not required
- Must have High School Diploma
- Ability to work with other service providers and coordinate care
- Initiative, particularly competence and confidence in working with a new organization; ability to collaborate with other Kids Play Gym staff to further develop organization and its programming and services.
- Alliance with and ability to uphold organization’s missions, principles, and promises to clients
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) strongly preferred but not required; willingness to acquire RBT status in a timely manner.
- Pass a criminal background check, driving record check, and proof of proper car insurance check
- Proficient in computers, particularly navigating our documentation software, Excel, G-suite, etc.
Must be able to transport children in your vehicle, we reimburse you for mileage and time during transport. You will only transport within 10 miles of the gym.
Part time- must be available M-F 8:30a-1p or 12:30p-5p
Full time- must be available M-F 8:30am-5pm
Please note that prior experience as a Behavior Technician or working with individuals with ASD is preferred but not required. We provide comprehensive training for all new hires.
