The Building Substitute Teacher is a regular, full-time position that provides classroom instruction during absences of the regular classroom teacher in a range of classrooms. The substitute teacher follows lesson plans and provides instruction on a broad range of subjects, aids students in understanding subject matter, and ensures that regular classroom routines are followed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Engages students in the instructional process by using the plans provided by the regular teacher
- Creates general lesson plans that are adaptable and appropriate, with the guidance of department/grade level staff or building leadership when necessary
- Performs duties assigned to the teacher whose place the substitute teacher is filling, including, but not limited to playground duty, lunchroom duty, hall duty, and others
- Report to the principal any accidents/incidents or potentially dangerous conditions (e.g. broken playground equipment, frayed electrical wires) that could cause injury
- Provides leadership and maintains control of classroom
- Enforces effective discipline in accordance with the policies of the District, and uses good judgment regarding when to involve building administration and/or staff
- Maintains standards of professional ethics in all relationships with students, parents, teachers and other community members
- Reports to the regular teacher or a designee all relevant information (e.g. behavior, assignment completion, attendance, etc.)
- Practices and maintains routines in all classes
- Leaves the classroom neat and orderly
- Exercises good judgment in the use of equipment and supplies
- Protects children by knowing and practicing good supervision and safety procedures
- Assumes responsibility for knowing duties and responsibilities of the teacher in the event of fire, tornado or other emergencies
- Follows important District policies, especially the following policies located in the substitute handbook: Child Abuse Reporting, Corporal Punishment, Tobacco Free Policy, Drug and Alcohol Policy, Sexual Harassment Policy, and Safety Handbook
- Models and reinforces positive learning skills and work habits
- Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
- Incorporates legal rights and due process for children with special needs
- Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
- Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned
Qualifications
- Bilingual Educators preferred, but not required;
- Valid Oregon Teaching License or an action plan to gain a valid Oregon Teaching License prior to January 19, 2023

Kids Unlimited Academy Environment:
- Kids Unlimited Academy curriculum includes two hours of enrichment programming which includes science, PE, music and art;
- Kids Unlimited Academy provides an extended day, extended year program, bringing students approximately 30% more instructional time than the local district's schools;
- Every day students will receive 90 minutes of instruction in both reading and math;
- Teachers will have common planning time a minimum of three days each week to collaborate with their grade partner teacher to analyze data and develop a strategy to increase successful student outcomes.
