Position Purpose
The Senior Director of Major Gifts & Donor Relations plays a critical role in generating revenue for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) by developing and overseeing a comprehensive donor stewardship and cultivation program , implementing moves-management strategies , and actively managing a portfolio of individual and institutional funders. The candidate in this position will champion the active use of our CRM by all Development staff and the Executive team.
The Senior Director will oversee the use of our MyClubHub (built on the Salesforce platform) donor and volunteer CRM to ensure the department is meeting fundraising goals and is effectively tracking donor progress. The Senior Director will supervise the Database Manager.
As a leader on the senior management and development teams, the Senior Director will support the overall direction of the fundraising plan and must collaborate well across departments as well as effectively collaborate with Board Members and key stakeholders on cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation strategies.
This position is full time and based out of our Main Office in San Francisco. This position is benefits eligible.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a cohesive strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward renewal, upgrade, lapsed, and acquisition gifts for individual and institutional funders, achieving growth in revenue and an expanded and diversified donor base.
- Identify and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, focusing on prospects rated at $10,000 and above.
- Conduct donor visits regularly with a goal of 100 inspiring, memorable, and meaningful visits per year, including qualification visits, making direct solicitations, and closing gifts.
- In partnership with the Senior VP of Development, collaborate on the development of an annual calendar of donor cultivation events as well as the execution of events focused on engaging key stakeholders, including Trustee Board, Emeritus Board, Board Alumni, and key donors.
- Demonstrate and maintain a keen sense of excitement and curiosity for prospects and donors, seeking to understand what compels each donor to give substantially.
- Create a moves management system and oversee its implementation; champion accountability and transparency by thoroughly documenting all donor moves in CRM.
- Oversee Database Management through supervision of the Database Manager, refining processes for reporting, database maintenance, and fundraising activity monitoring.
- Apply knowledge of BGCSF, its traditions, programs, needs, and priorities to the development process. Discuss BGCSF needs and priorities persuasively with prospective donors and volunteers.
- Provide leadership and support for Planned Giving and non-operating campaign support, including identifying key prospects and developing materials for discussion.
- Independently manage collaborative working relationships with the BGCSF President, executive team, fundraising colleagues, and direct service colleagues to develop strategies for joint solicitation.
- Partner with marketing, programs, finance, and other staff to develop compelling written materials, proposals, and impact statements that prompt philanthropic support.
- Work directly with Board members, Trustees, and donors who collaborate with us as fundraising volunteers to support their efforts.
- Be visible in the San Francisco philanthropic community and find creative ways to tell the BGCSF story.
- Participate on cross-functional teams and be a member of the development leadership team.

The wage range for this role takes into account various factors considered in making compensation decisions. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $125,000 to $140,000.
