What are the responsibilities and job description for the GUIDANCE COUNSELOR position at KidsPeace?
At Kidspeace, the Guidance Counselor is responsible for providing guidance services to students in planning future educational/vocational goals and assist in preparing them for the transition to adulthood. The Guidance Counselor will also consult with educational and other professionals in both researching past schooling and the best direction for future goals.
Job Duties / Essential Functions
1. Provide individual and/or group counseling with Students.
Career
- Assist students to progress toward productive, rewarding careers.
- Assist students to select and enter educational opportunities.
Academic
- Assist student placement in school courses by obtaining previous records.
- Assist students to develop learning skills.
Personal/Social
- Assist students to develop self-understanding.
- Assist students to develop interpersonal relationships.
- Provide consultation to teachers and parents (and/or social workers) regarding services and students.
Teachers
- Assist teachers to understand and utilize the services of the school.
Parents (and/or Social Workers)
- Assist parents to understand their child’s educational progress.
- Assist parents to understand the opportunities available to their children.
- Coordinate with Administrators and School Personnel.
- Assist in the development and promotion of school transition/education opportunities.
- Assist in the placement of students into groups appropriate for their educational and emotional needs.
- Provide guidance services to assigned children and families.
- Maintain liaison with the school of assigned children to enable the child to use the program effectively and to inform the referral agency of the child’s progress.
- Initiate inter-agency communications in regard to transition services.
- Insure needed documents for transition planning are complete and correctly filed.
Qualifications (Education, Trainings and Experience):
Master's Degree in Public School Elementary/Secondary Guidance; certificate required.
Experience working with children, families, schools and social service agencies.
Must possess computer skills and knowledge.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid driver's license.
10 or 12 month position available
