Job Summary
A Pediatrician is responsible for providing and maintaining quality medical care to patients in KidsPeace programs. The position will
ensure the maintenance of program specific medical policies, procedures and protocols in compliance with KidsPeace standards, as
well as all pertinent licensing requirements and accrediting body standards. The Physician will adhere to evidence-based practice
guidelines, professional standards, state and federal requirements.
Job Duties
Job Duties / Essential Functions
- Assessment & Treatment – Assess the physical health of each patient admitted utilizing available records, patient/family interviews, and history and physical examination, either written or dictated. This includes a review of the immunization status, allergies, past history, family history and functional inquiry of each patient. Subsequent physical examinations are to be completed in compliance with the regulations governing each program and, in addition, when a patient is discharged to another setting. Provide written treatment orders and ongoing care and treatment as needed. Obtain consultations from specialists within the KidsPeace medical community when necessary.
- Medication Management – Prescribe and monitor medications within established pediatric standards. Obtain laboratory and diagnostic studies as needed
- Participate as needed in the medical screening of clients referred to KidsPeace programs to assess for appropriateness for admission from a medical standpoint. Advise other departments (nursing, leadership, etc.) if there are anticipated needs for a potential client’s medical care.
- Documentation – Utilize templates endorsed by the KidsPeace Medical Leadership in organizing and writing/dictating history and physical examinations, medication reviews, progress notes, “sick call” visits, and other such documentation that may be typically required. Ensure that all services provided are documented in a complete, thorough and timely manner as established by the organization
- Safety – Ensure appropriate evaluation of a patient/client’s physical ability to undergo restraint. Respond to emergencies in a timely manner and follow up with recommendations. Provide minor First Aid treatment and arrange follow up medical care as needed.
- Leadership & Supervision – Assume a leadership role regarding the clinical management of patients/clients in programs assigned. Establish as necessary collaboration/supervision agreements with Advance Practice Professionals (Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants) and provide ongoing supervision. Provide supervision to students as assigned through established KidsPeace university affiliation agreements.
- Education & Training – Maintain continuous, valid state license and Continuing Medical Education credits as required by relevant certifying board. Develop and present case studies, journal articles or topics of interest for educational forums.
- Participate in the development of Advance Practice Professionals through mentoring, supervision and provision of ongoing learning opportunities. Provide in-service training to program staff on topics of interest or relevance to programs
- Administration – Participate in the efficient operation of KidsPeace programs by:
- Serving on committees and task forces as assigned by the Executive Vice President & Chief Medical Officer to include providing necessary research or review;
- Participating in the established on-call rotation including weekdays, weekends, nights and holidays;
- Accepting short term assignments in other locations and/or services based on the needs of the organization;
- Participating in utilization review activities including but not limited to development of standards, insurance company appeals and teleconferences and provision of prior authorization information;
- Participating in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Quality Assessment/Improvement (Q.A.I) and peer review standards.
- Provide in a timely manner all related information as requested and needed for medical staff and insurance credentialing and Human Resources employment processes.
