SUMMARY : Seeking an experienced Hematology / Oncology APRN to support our attendings with consults in the NICU, PICU, ED and peds floor, as well as the 6 Tower inpatient hematology oncology floor at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Day shift position, Monday-Friday. Under indirect supervision and working interdependently with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, provides a broad range of nurse practitioner services following established policies and protocols. Performs a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for patient admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation. Participates in performance improvement, research, and educational activities. Assists physicians with clinical documentation. Day-shift position, Monday-Friday.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations.
- Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
- Attend Hem / Onc inpatient rounds daily (Monday - Friday) with Attending and residents
- Evaluate assigned patients on 6 Tower Oncology Floor particularly when resident inpatient census in high- including history, physical exam, progress notes, and order entry
- Assist Hematology / Oncology attending on seeing consults / procedures on hospital floors when needed (including the NICU, PICU, and ED)
- Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
- Interprets laboratory and test results.
- Provide education and continuity / quality of care guidance to rotating pediatric residents on floor
- Upon discharge, notes discharge summaries, prescriptions, and any referrals on patient charts.
- Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions.
- Provides teaching and emotional support to patients and families.
- Triages and refers patients for further care based on severity of illness and symptoms.
- Utilizes written guidelines / protocol for clinical decision making and management.
- Prepares timely, legible, and complete documentation of all patient care as provided by law, regulation, and established policy.
- Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient / family rights.
- Applies safety principles as identified by established policy.
- Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies / practices.
- Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with JCAHO, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
