Kiewit Luminarium is a next-generation science center that joyfully engages people of all ages and backgrounds to explore the astonishing phenomena that shape our selves, our community, and the world. Through our interactive exhibitions and innovative programs, we inspire lifelong interest and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our wonderful, purpose-built, 82,000 square-foot facility is now open on the Omaha RiverFront, and we continue to develop the talented team that, together with collaborators and visitors, brings Kiewit Luminarium to life.
The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for workplace policy and practice that will attract, grow, retain, and graduate Kiewit Luminarium talent. Reporting to the CEO, the Human Resources Specialist will work closely with leadership to create a progressive work environment where the shared experiences of staff and collaborators are the first ring of mission impact, reflecting strong commitments to lifelong learning, personal agency, and a sense of belonging for all. We are seeking an experienced and innovative HR leader who is motivated by the opportunity to help shape a highly diverse team and culture moving rapidly from start-up to scaled operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of mission-aligned, people-centered workplace policies and practice to attract, grow, and retain talented individuals as well as diverse teams that may include full time employees, part-time employees, youth, interns, residents, collaborators, and volunteers
- Manage human resources staff and resources, including HR consultants and service providers
- Help establish an organizational culture rooted in learning, belonging, and joyful engagement
- Manage recruitment, hiring, training, and ongoing professional development
- Administer a suite of competitive and responsive employee benefits
- Ensure HR-related compliance by staying abreast of legal changes, monitoring areas of potential liability, maintaining excellent records, and fulfilling employer requirements
- Advise and work closely with the leadership team on performance management, progressive work environment, compensation strategy, succession planning, and employee engagement
- Be goal-oriented and data-driven with regard to employee engagement, performance, and outcomes; learn from and educate others based on results, feedback and evaluation
Experience & Key Competencies:
- BA/BS degree with 8 years relevant experience including 4 in leadership
- Ability to make well-reasoned decisions and recommendations based on organizational goals, critical thinking, research, assessment (qualitative and quantitative), and analysis
- Strong commitment to lifelong learning and to helping others achieve their potential
- Excellent judgment and high integrity with regard to trust and confidentiality
- Superb coaching, communication, and conflict resolution skills
- Cross-cultural fluency and demonstrated ability to work well with diverse teams
- HR certification (SHRM) plus knowledge of regulations, policy, technology, and practice
