What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager position at Kilcor Construction?
The Safety Manager will plan, organize, and direct all phases of the company's safety programs. While ensuring, all activities are conducted in a safe, accident-free environment in compliance with company, local, state, and federal rules, and regulations. You will investigate all accidents to determine the cause and complete all paperwork required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and state regulations. You will also conduct safety training for managers and team members on a continuing basis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Creates and executes corporate safety program reenforcing the importance of fostering a culture of safety.
- Conducts regular physical inspections of ongoing construction projects in every region KCPC|Kilcor is operating.
- Visits every team member at least once a year with more frequent visits to larger markets and larger projects.
- Make recommendations on software to record track training and implementation of safety programs.
- Enforces the importance of logging near misses and utilizes information in training capacity for the organization.
- Is thoroughly familiar with federal and state regulations covering all aspects of safety and health.
- Familiar with the site safety requirements of owner, GC and/or OCIP/CCIP.
- Ability to pro-actively recognize potential hazardous situations/exposures and implement corrective measures.
- Works with appropriate team members to provide guidance on safety setup during pre-construction planning of upcoming projects.
- Makes recommendations concerning the modifications of improvements of safety measures on existing projects.
- Investigates all accidents to determine the cause and completes all paperwork required by OSHA or state regulations.
- Conducts ongoing safety training for all team members and subcontractors as needed.
- Complies reports and attend Workers Comp Hearings as required.
- Ensure all team members and sub-contractors wear proper protective equipment when conducting assigned construction duties.
- Travel to job sites for routine inspections, if there is an accident or if there is an OSHA visit will be required.
SKILLS:
- Ability to evaluate construction work activities with respect to safety and loss control.
- Experience building safety programs and reporting on results.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities. Effective communication and analytical skills
- Skilled in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and state regulations.
- Ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors, and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to travel to project sites.
- Develop and maintain the employee recognition program.
- Ability to cast vision for safety and risk management. Serve as a guide and resource for both office and field operations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- A minimum of 10 years of general safety experience including 5 years of applicable construction project experience.
- A minimum of OSHA 510 and 500(OSHA Outreach Trainer) First Aid/CPR and AED training.
- Competent Person in the following: Fall Protection, LOTO, Excavation, MEWP, Scaffolding and Confined
- Experience in medical management for injury cases relative to Workers Compensation.
- A collaborative, creative collaborator able to connect with all parts of the organization to generate ideas and safety strategies.
- Exceptional integrity, work ethic, credibility, and confidentiality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CHST and/or STC-C or the willingness to acquire the greater of the two within 6 months.
- Acquisition of OSHA 500 for Construction within 6 months if not currently authorized as an OSHA Outreach Trainer for Construction 10- and 30-hour courses.
