Job Summary:
The Terrain Park Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of Killington Parks/Pico Parks (November-May) and Killington Bike Park (May-November). This role combines creativity, technical skill, and managerial responsibilities to ensure the resorts terrain parks and bike park meet the needs of skiers, snowboarders, and mountain bikers while maintaining safety, quality, and functionality.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities and essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

Design and Planning:
- Collaborate with equipment operators and other resort staff to plan, design, and develop terrain park features (rails, jumps, boxes, halfpipes, etc.) and bike trails (berms, jumps, bridges, drops, etc.)
- Ensure features meet safety standards and skill-level suitability for different user groups (beginner, intermediate, expert).
- Regularly review and update the park layout and bike trail network to keep it innovative and engaging.

Construction and Maintenance:
- Oversee the construction of terrain park features, working closely with snowmaking and grooming teams
- Oversee the construction and maintenance of mountain bike trails
- Supervise the maintenance of features, ensuring they are in good condition throughout the day
- Monitor snow conditions and adjust park features as necessary based on weather and snow quality.
- Monitor weather to create and adjust project timelines for mountain bike trail construction and maintenance
- Responsible for making decisions on feature and park closures based on conditions

Safety Management:
- Ensure terrain park features are designed, built, and maintained in compliance with company and industry safety guidelines.
- Monitor and assess park features for hazards and make improvements or remove dangerous obstacles
- Provide training to staff on park safety and risk management
- Implement signage and barriers to alert users of any risks or changes in the park layout.

Staff Management:
- Hire, train, and supervise a team of terrain park attendants
- Schedule staff shifts to ensure the terrain park is monitored and maintained at all times.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Demonstrate leadership and teambuilding within the department
- Set example for Park Crew by practicing safe riding habits in the park and demonstrating excellent customer service
- Ensure a regular presence of Terrain Park Attendants in all parks throughout each day

Guest Experience:
- Create a fun, challenging, and accessible experience for park users and mountain bikers of all ability levels
- Gather feedback from park users to improve the park's design and features
- Collaborate with the Events team to organize and promote terrain park events and mountain bike races
- Functions as an ambassador of Killington Mountain, modeling and sharing the Killington culture with our guests and employees. Upholds the most professional image. Continually strives to exceed our guests expectations and create memories for our guests and staff

Budgeting and Inventory:
- Manage the terrain park budget, including materials, tools, equipment, and labor costs.
- Keep track of equipment and supplies necessary for terrain park operations.
- Recommend purchases or upgrades for equipment or park features.

Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other departments (Patrol, Snowmaking, Grooming, Events, Marketing and Lift Ops) to ensure the park operates efficiently.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to plan and promote social content to keep guests informed on park and trail status and events
- Communicate with upper management regarding terrain park needs, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Address any guest concerns or incidents related to the terrain park.
- Attend daily Snow Plan meetings through the winter season to communicate needs or issues with the Terrain Parks team
Basic Requirements:
- Valid US Drivers license
- Must physically be able to stand for extended periods of time and be able to bend, reach, climb, push, and pull
- Physical Lifting: Over 50 lbs
- Expert ability on skis or snowboard in all conditions and terrain
- Expert ability for mountain biking on downhill trails
- Superior verbal communication, reading comprehension, and written communication skills in English
- Must be able to sit in confined spaces for extended periods of time
- Must have excellent hand/eye coordination and visual concentration
- Ability to tolerate and work efficiently in a mountainous environment with extreme temperatures and conditions
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in mountain operations or similar
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to accept criticism and feedback from coworkers and guests
- Strong understanding of past and present trends in the industry (terrain park/bike park)
- Familiarity with terrain park and mountain biking events/races
- Previous experience in terrain park and mountain bike trail design
- Familiar with the capabilities of different types of heavy equipment/machinery
- Experience using wide variety of hand/power tools
- Experience operating snowmobiles, ATVS, and side-by-sides at a mountain resort
- Experience operating heavy machinery is beneficial (skid-steer, mini-excavator, front-end loader)
- Is honest and has the highest integrity
- Is able to handle and manage confidential information
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Friendly and outgoing personality ability to interact with wide range of guests and coworkers
- Ability to manage, train, and motivate a team effectively
- Self-starter with the ability to stay productive with limited supervision
