TEACHING ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
True West Teaching Assistants support TWFC’s education and community engagement programs. TWFC offers in-school, after-school, and summer filmmaking classes to students in various settings throughout Sonoma County. TWFC Teaching Assistants support Lead Teaching Artists to provide engaging, rich, and unique creative experiences for students grades K-12. The programs deliver high-quality, standards-based curriculum, exposing the community to filmmaking from a range of cultures. TWFC provides opportunities for professional development and growth, in which TAs have the opportunity to become Lead Teaching Artists after assisting for several semesters and attending trainings and workshops hosted by TWFC Lead Teaching Artists.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Lead Teaching Artist in film classes for diverse student populations ranging from 6 years old to 17 years old
- Guide student film crews to develop a 3-Act story for their films
- Build student crew shot list using template
- Edit student short films using WeVideo software
- Assist LTA in classroom management
- Set up and break down film equipment for student crews
- Set up and break down any class-related equipment
- Support students for various film and community building activities
- Supervise groups of approximately 5 students during film production
- Supervise groups of approximately 5 students during film editing
- Assist LTA for student film screenings
QUALIFICATIONS
- Some filmmaking experience, including writing, production, and editing
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a school or community center with various community members, and with TWFC staff
- Ability to work patiently with and provide encouragement to young children
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks within identified timeframes
- Availability to work a flexible schedule that may include afternoons, evenings, and some weekends
- Have a commitment to diversity and proven ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
